SB Live! & Viper 770 Ultra conflict?
« on: December 21, 1999, 11:14:00 AM »
I recently added a 770 ultra to my system and now I'm having a 'neat' problem.  Sometimes I get little static-popping type sounds from the smallest thing, like a single keystroke.  Most times it happens while flying and I have the clipboard up.  Sounds like an old fashioned typewritter clacking away as I type on the radio sometimes.  It'll also cause the stick to spike strong enough to disengage the autopilot.  I've got the latest drivers for both the cards.  The device mangler says there aren't any conflicts and I got the 2 patches I needed for my motherboard so the viper would work.  Anyone got any ideas?

Cave;

Do you get a slight hesitation or a momentary lock-up in the screen movement when this happens?

Cave what sound card do you have? I have the exact same problem on my box, it started after i was tring to get RW working and was installing different driver sets for my ensoniq sound card. I havn't done any more trouble shooting to isolate it yet being my RW started working after i reinstalled an older sound driver set that caused the sound click problem.

Mino, yes I do, and it's most noticable when I'm running a 17 and an start shooting at an N1K2.  Was totally weird, one sortie I got jumped by a george, got the stutter, got lucky and killed him.  Got jumped by a pony about 5 minutes later, no sutter, racked up another kill and took some damage.  Then about 5 minutes after the pony another george came at me and this time, instead of just a small studder, it was a constant studder and my fps dropped to what seemed like 1-2fps (dinnae have time to hit ctrl+i to check), almost a full lockup.

HiTech I have a Creative SB Live! card, with Liveware! 3.0 and the latest drivers installed.  I've also installed the 3.53 drivers for the viper.  I'm using diamonds drivers, not NVidia's reference ones though, because a guy I know told me about all kinds of problems he had with the NVidia detonator drivers not seeing his 770 ultra as a TNT2 ultra card.

Cave and HT;

My system is pretty identical to Cave's, except I have SB16PnP sound card and a P3-500.

I use the sound card game port, using Thrustmaster FLCS, TQS and Elite Rudder Pedals.  Joystick polling off, using CTFJ 3.2 as my joystick moderator.

I have the latest sound drivers and video drivers (v770 Ultra) that came with the CD.

I noticed this little "Hiccup" starting about version 40.  (I believe that I joined Beta at version 34-35) It does not happen very often and happens sporadically.  I have not documented exactly when it happens.  It appeard to be what I thought were quick HD access hesitations, from the newer versions.

Does not seem to matter if RW was running, active or not.

As a side note.  I tried a X36 Saitek Joystick / Throttle / Rudder combonation recently.  Again, attached via the sound card game port.

In game calibration with the Saitek seemed OK.  But as Cave describes, the game "Hiccuped" constantly, in both the described noise and screen hesistation.  OttoPilot would not stay engaged for more that 15-30 seconds.  Occasionally other weird stuff happened like, flaps dropping, views switching magically, dropping my bombs etc.  Nothing that mattered to me.

Hope this helps somewhat, I can provide exact system specs if you need them.  I will pay attention, as to when exactly, this occurs.

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Mino Diamond released new drivers for the 770's 4-5 days ago.  Thier 3.53 drivers, based on Nvidia's detonator 3.53 drivers.

tried the 4.02 drivers for the viper and still had the problem.  Got the Nvidia Detonator 3.53 drivers and isntalled them and it pretty much cleared it up, cept now there are a couple of extra lines on the map and a couple of buttons on the clipboard =)

maybe this new box is just screwy (like me =)
