Question!.. Does bombing runways have an affect?

Before if you bombed a runway you could till take off and the crater would not affect you.  Does it now??

I tried this offline - flew to 27 and laid a pattern of 12 500lb bombs down the runway centreline (salvo 12 1 sec delay if I remember rightly). Then went to 27 and tried to take off - could roll through the craters but it wrecked the gear and never managed to take off. Runway repaired itself in 15 mins.

I would be interested to know what happens if you crater the spawn point - would gear collapse as soon as you spawn? Would be interesting because it would cause people to launch from the hangar.

Soooo.... dropping a 250lb on the spawn points is more cost effective than dropping the hangars... this is food for thought...

Lessee... on a small field, B17 comes in, hits both ends of the runway. Drop one 250lb through each hangar, and nothing leaves the ground. This leaves the ack and Vhangar...

A crater seems to be a low doggy bowl shape "item" on the ground. You don't "crash" or blow up because you run into or over one - unless you're at a hi speed. I think if you "drove" slowly over it then passed it you could be out of the danger zone and can take off.
 But if ack is down. That makes vulching even easier.

Does this mean we can finally lay down a line of bombs either side of the runway and stop aircraft going cross country to strafe the drunks?

I put craters at the door of a hangar in 1.02 and was able to drive over them without damage.  Might be different in 1.03.

I fly Knights with "The Wrecking Crew" and lately some nits have taken to ackstarring.  To add to this condemnable practice they were dropping their bombs as soon as their wheels left the ground.  They were all dropped in Salvo and left considerable pock marks on the runway.  I was flying the Macchi that night and the craters nabbed my landing gear.

We then spent quite a bit of time explaining to the thick skulled Ackstarrs that this practice was injuring us, as well as making them look like complete dweebs.

I know all the "Crew" flying in the area got screen shots and film.

Hopefully this post will embarrass the low IQ'rs enough to correct their behavior.

Yes, cratering a runway can have an effect.

Hmmmmmmmm  Sounds like bombs in mid-point of runway may have better effect  

Espeically against high nose planes....

I've dropped a bomb 1/2 way down the runway before to hamper people taking off.  It tends to break their gear and cause them to crash.  They are almost always ditches or "successful landings" though as they just pancake it on the runway and ride it out.  You can't really get kills this way (or at least I never have).

The key is that sometimes it can buy you that extra second of time while the person re-planes.

hiya all:

hey Downtown, those that dropped there bombs as soon as there wheels left the ground would only do it once. it would kill them, this i know for i have done it, but not over the runway. i dropped bombs as i cleared the runway and was at about 200 ft, the blast still took me out. at the same time i did it to a p38, it was coming in Ho, i was in b-26, i could see from his attack angel/approach he was going to be going under me, i opened bomb doors, i was at about 400 to 500 ft, just before he went under me i started dropping bombs, dropped 6 in total, 500lb'ders. he went boom, i took damage but got the kill and had to turn and land. it was too nice of a kill and probably shocked the hell out of the p-38.

all in all, watch where you drop your bombs.
if you don't beleive me, grab any plane with bombs, drop them and see what happens.
