The Landing Craft, Vehicle, Personnel (LCVP) or Higgins boat
« on: September 10, 2010, 09:03:01 PM »
Do you think there should be a Landing Craft, Vehicle, Personnel (LCVP) or Higgins boat in Aces High :airplane:

(especially for "Okinawa").

They would be cool but it would be a
Very long run from the LCVP to the maproom?
Still I'd like to see them even if they were only useful in AvA, Scenarios, and FSO...

Yes, bring it on. Granted it can't  go all the way to the map room like an LVT can, but it should be twice as fast in the water as an LVT is.

Hits the beach with 40 troops or maybe 20 and a GV, the 40 troops move straight to the beachhead town (you do know some of these towns are maybe a 1/4 mile away from the landing site) and take a jeep or M4A3 75 to the town to defend the troops or kill buildings etc.

max number of troops it would carry is 10.  ht has said many times, if any gv/plane can carry more than 10, then he would increase the number needed to take base by the same amount.  So even if it gets added, that's a lot of running for them troops. perhaps a 2 or 3 minute wait, which you will have to endure and if you get killed then you'll have to sit in the tower for many minutes or your troops will die as well as soon as you up again.

I guess it would be cool to have but its pretty much useless for taking town, unless town is really close by and that's only on a handful of bases.

So all that coad for basically little use unless it would carry a Sherman, then that would be a different story.

you dont want me to ho, dont point your plane at me.

The LCVP was rated for a 6,000 lb vehicle, roughly 1/10 of the weight of a Sherman.  I suppose you
could dismantle a Sherman, then load into 10 LCVPs  :D  I don't want to be the guy trying to fit Tab A
into Slot B on the beach though.

You guys must be thinking of an LCM-3 that could carry one Sherman or 60 troops..was quite a bit
larger than the Higgins boat.

In San Francisco, the have things called Duck Boat Tours, they use old DUKWs, the captain let me take the controls when we were in the bay, drove under the Bay Bridge with it. Was awesome.
