Which one is a  better medium to long range fighter that is good for taking down bombers but also pretty strong aganinst fighters.
Speed is what I need more than maneuverability

Well, "long range" and Spitfires don't go well in the same sentence

If you want to hunt buffs in a Spit (particularly higher ones) and speed is essential, there is only one choice, the Spit XIV. Of you don't want to fly a perked one, you may look at the Spit IX, which has a good high altitude performance. If endurance/range is most important, you will have to use a Spit VIII.

Keep in mind, while all MW/LW Spits (8,9,14,16) have some good attributes for buff hunting (particularly rate of climb), their fragility maybe makes them not the best choice for that role.

Me-262 or TA 152 BF109k4 or G16 are my choices for bomber hunting.....but as far as spits go... I like the VIII

Simple answer is there really isn't a spit fitting all of your specifications. You can either take a spitfire and have an acceptable bomber hunter and a good fighter (I'll admit it even if I hate the damn thing), or you can hop in another plane and pick up some extra speed and range.

What alt are you talking about? At 30k, you can't go wrong with a P-47.

mk VIII fits your requirements.

It has ~45min of fuel at military power, good climb rate, and fully capable of catching bombers. It is faster than mk IX and has longer range. mk XVI is not good at high altitude and the range is about the same at mk IX if not shorter. The only other spitfire that would be better for such a mission would be mk XIV but it's not that easy to master without lots of experience in spitfires and lots of low alt - low speed training. You can try taking the mk XIV as I would highly recommend it but you have to be ready to loose alot of perks initially before you learn how to fly it.

This goes to all spitfires: you might not be able to outrun most late war planes but you can certainly out climb most of them.

The Mk VIII yes take it good ammo compliment and sutch

But remember the Spit was designed to intercept and shoot down German bomber's i.e the He 111 and Doniers and Ju 88's.
So I'd advise a P47 or Fw190 for the allied bombers more hitting power and better survivability.

From what I remember, the best girl pilots I ever flew with/against flew Hurricane Mk.Is and Typhoons.

The VIII carries the most internal fuel so has the longest range.  The IX is built for high alt work but is slower although more manouverable than the VIII.  The XIV is also built for high alt, is the fastest and has a better gun package then the VIII or IX but it's a perk plane so if you die you lose your perks.  The XVI carries the same gun package as the XIV but is primarily designed for low alts.  In any of them you'll want 100% fuel and a drop tank and none of them can take many hits.  You'll have to set up your passes carefully.

Best range = Spit VIII (8)
Best climb and speed and high alt (20k+) performance = Spit XIV (14)
Best over-all fighter plane in AH = Gay16... er sorry, I meant the Spit XVI (16).

If you're going to chase bombers, I highly suggest the Spitfire 8 due to the longer range.  The Spitfire 14 will get you there quicker but you may be rushed due to lack of fuel.
