Auto recording sorties
« on: September 12, 2010, 11:36:15 AM »
For you guys who do this, how long do you keep film and how do you remember what sortie is what?  Also, over time, how much hard drive room does this take, any noticeable effects on computer speed or lagging and all that?

It was mentioned last night on 200 text that somehow I might be running my internet into another box and "watching" a data stream somehow and manipulating it so as to cause ricochets off of my tank. LOL I farm for a living, all I know about computers is they work on the FM (fargin magic) principle.

So I think I want to record the sorties for a while, that way when someone thinks I am not farming and manipulating packets I can go back to a recording and send to them what I see on my end.

At the end of the sortie if nothing significant happened I delete the film. If for some reason I want to keep the film I rename it reflecting the reason I saved it. ie. "good 109 fight", "dumb move", etc.

I do the "manual auto record", almost every time I'm about to see action, I roll the recorder.

When the fight is over, I end recording, and if there was anything notable I give it a quick name like "me 262 8 kills", "good dogfight" or "cowboiz from hell going ballistic".
Every 2 weeks or so I purge all films without such a label.

I also auto-record, but at the end of the flight, I either keep the film with some name or cancel the save.  My problem is I never go back and actually watch or use the films I record, so why bother?  :headscratch:

I auto record too
my trouble is that now it is second nature to push cancel at end of flight
I invariably do it when I want to save a film  :lol

The only real problem of too many films is if you have a lot of them when you start the recorder you might get a long delay/frozen screen. It happens because the game looks to see what the default name of the next film should be like "film127.ahf" I do like Sik and Lusche said, I film only as I engage. Then label it with what happened when I stop the film. I review films once a week (that way the log doesn't get too big) and save only those that are interesting in one way or another, but I save them to a different folder to avoid the delay problem.

I use a more simple method of naming them.  If I want to save a film and was killed by or I killed someone I keep the name tag consistent by nameing it    "Rondar 09-12-10"  This way it is easy to keep it sorted by name and date.  If I have more than one person named on the same date then I just add a 1, 2, 3 etc after the date "Rondar 09-12-10 1".

If it is just a dumb move of mine, or someone elses, then I will do like the others above and name it something like "auger 262 09-12-10".

Every couple of days I go into the film file and transfer the ones I want to keep into a folder I created for Aces High.  The rest I delete.  They will take up some space, but in this day of 450 + gig hard drives, it will take a long long long time before space becomes an issue.

i keep my films stupidly long. i don't auto record though. i turn it on when i'm about to be in combat.

i title the film with the name of the person that kilt me....or that i beat.

I auto-record every sortie, and I'll rename them to something like "A5 vs Stabops 38J" so I know what it contains.

Makes it easy to look it up if I want to see something.

I also create a new "films" folder after 100 or so films, renaming the old one.
