No.  My original post contained only mid war spitfires.

The spits that i mentioned (detuned griffon powered XI and clipped cropped clapped Mk V) were developed specifically to at least put up a fight against Fw-190 at low alt in 1942-43.  Don't worry,  La7s, P51s, 190D and other god-tier late war planes should still overmatch and dominate Mark XII and clipped cropped clapped Mk V.

See the performance of these planes

it shouldn't cause disruption and whinefest like when spit XVI was introduced 5 years ago.
but who cares!? They gave us a 109G14 and i think its performance mirrors the spit 16 (just gotta adopt to different style of gunnery in 109) :aok

Don't kid yourself.  The XII was the XVI in 1943.  Trust me on this one.  I can go on about the XII forever and would love to see it.  But in the overall scheme of things, there are other birds that should be added first.

If you want that performance, go jump in an XVI and have at it.

And in terms of Spitfires.  Any new Spitfire would cause a whine.  That's just a given.

no doubt about the whines, and the XII would be a stone cold killer in AH. what perk value for MW I wonder  :uhoh

i think the spit xii is just as fast as ki 84 and 190a, but won't outclimb planes like spit 16 and 109k
and i doubt you can turn and burn it since you got a slightly heavy griffon engine.  Heck I don't even turn and burn with spit 14 in dueling arena furballs.

Again, trust me on this one.  I'm guessing you've discovered the XII recently.  It's been my baby since 1980 :)

Standard tactics with the XIIs were to troll below the 190s and 109s.  They'd break into the 109s and 190s and have at it.  Best day being October 20, 1943 when they got 9 for no loss after being bounced.  It turned just fine and was put into production to stop 190 hit and run raiders on the south coast of England, which they did, most effectively on May 25, 1943 when 4 Spitfire XIIs of 91 Squadron caught 12-15 190A5s and shot down 5 for no loss.

I fly my cartoon 38G the way I do because of those Spit XII guys.  I like to fly low and try and suck em down and see what I can do.  It's burned into my cartoon pilot brain to fly it that way.

Would I enjoy the XII?  Sure.    But do we need it in AH?  Not before a lot of other birds come first.

I'm not even sure if that's a spitfire anymore (in traditional sense)
that sounds more like a tempest :devil

there's no way i can do that in MA or dueling arena since icons and external views in DA are on.
maybe i can with LA7 in DA and MA but its just gonna be hit 'n run ambush

your preaching to the choir on this one perrine.

Hell yea we should have those 2 spitfires and the more common seafire!

Clipped wings should be optional in the hangar for the mk 5 and 14.  However if HTC would truly unleash the beast the whines would go through the roof.

We need to keep a little room for balance and gameplay fairness.   ;)

Gotta show me a wartime clipped XIV before I'd back that one Bruv.  Lots postwar, but yet to see one in a wartime photo.  I believe the clipped XIVs were when they were put in the same role of ground attack as the XVI was at the end of the war.   More of a reaction to the jets taking over and the XIV losing it's role as interceptor that it had in the ETO while the Merlin Spits did the ground attack work.

You'd need to have engine options too if you were going to clip the Spit V, that and A, B and C wing options for the V.

I think we'd be better off with a Merlin 66 Spitfire IX from 1943.

If you fly long enough, some one can eisly clip your wings for you, few .50s would do it.
:aok :rofl
Forgot who said this while trying to take a base, but the quote goes like this. "I cant help you with ack, Im not in attack mode" This is with only 2 ack up in the town while troops were there, waiting. The rest of the town was down.
