So the gatling gun isn't in a flexible mount, or would it just be difficult to aim at an aircraft with?

why did they not cut a hole in the door instead of creating extra drag by removing it?

why did they not cut a hole in the door instead of creating extra drag by removing it?

The door on the AC47 swung in, not out.  The gun was mounted, bolted , through the floor to a support strut.  So the door was removed.  The AC47 did not experience a major change in  speed  because of door.   Also, Viet Nam was warm, even in the winter season you could have a daily temperature in the 90’s and during the summer 110+ with 100% humidity  was normal.   The lapse rate was 1.5 to 3 degrees per thousand feet  and spooky in Viet Nam operated around 3000 ft AGL,  so instead of being  125 - 130 degrees inside of that tincan  it was 5 or 7 degrees cooler.  Don’t forget the heat from three min guns.    Also initially the guns were fired by the crew chief with an optical at the door.  The min gun was air-cooled.  At least the ones I saw were.

I was with the 5th Special Forces and we called in fire support including Spooky to put rounds on nme troop movement many times.  I was also in a fire support base in January of 68 that was being overrun by the north and it was necessary to call in spooky and some fast movers to lay down napalm on our wire.    Next  morning we had a number of crispy critters the napalm had taken out but in the wire were over 70 that had been killed by spooky.  At some points spooky fired and put rounds within 50 feet of our fighting positions, they were that good.

Ack-Ack

I know it wasn't flexible, but who cares, as an Evil Con Plane it does not have to be realistic. If they werent flexible so what, make them flexible.

Honestly ack-ack, if you fight this one you are condemming the Super Fokker, the Minigun RV8, the Flying Shark and even SANTA!

Just let it go, and make a goonie bird that bites back.

Besides, a massive goon hoarde turns up, and then it drops the town, and then a few real C-47's take it, could you imagine their faces
when a C-47 blasts them out of the sky?

I'm glad Silat turned me on to these wonderful anti-squeaker ankle guards, works wonders.

Oh...my reply to Nemisis was in response to his question on whether or not the AC-47 was capable of shooting down an airplane and had nothing to do with an Evil Con mission.  So kiddo, Pull your head out from where the Sun don't shine and you'll look like less of an idiot.  I know it's something that I'll (or anyone else) will never see in our life time but we can always hope.

wiki is actually reliable as long as you double check with the given sources

Agreed. The AC47 and AC130 were both made for ground attack roles only. neither had any Air to Air gunnery or defenses
Hehehehe doesn't stop GV's not able to engage air targets .
