Sound is everything to me.  A good headset is going to cost a few more bucks.  Below is Ear Force HPA2, made by Turtle Beach.  Spent $100 bucks two years ago, been satisfied ever since..  Google Turtle Beach, several choices.

Earphones I have and I love 'em, excellent choice for gaming head phones.

I went through many sets of cheap headsets.  I finally got a decent pair last year.  Zowie Hammer.  I'll never own another pair other than these.

Lots of good ideas here. The cheapo's from Wally-World always get a wire lose or broke at the head-set. I've re-soldered a couple but it's a PIA. I like the cordless...loess to break off, as long as they hold up.

Although they are inexpensive ($16 or so), I think that the Koss CS-100's are high quality.  I've owned a pair that has lasted for more than 5 years and still going strong.  They have a lifetime warranty, good frequency response (30 Hz to 20,000 Hz), and an excellent mic that gives great in-game voice clarity.

Like SWrokit states.. you *WANT* the Turtle Beach HPA-2.

Amazon.com has them for $80 with free shipping.
Newegg.com has them for $75 + $4 shipping.
I found a pair new on ebay for $70 with free shipping.

No, not cheap.. but not $100 either... but most DEFINITELY worth the price.  The sound quality is better than many $200+ sets out there, and the TRUE surround sound will blow you away.  I've had my set going on 3 years now without a single problem.

Thanks for the links I ordered a set last night.  :salute

I decided to save some money and go against the astros. I found a company that game informer did a review of and got my headset today for 99 dollars and they are awesome. Clear criso sound and very comfortable. check it out.

I'm a bit of an audiophile but those are hands down (sennheiser hd555 comes close 2nd) the best bang for your buck at that price range. You can use a clip on zalman mic or desktop mic.

I agree.  I brought some to the con last year before they were on the street and they are the ones I use.  I like the idea of their own built in sound device.
