LCT for the Task Force?
« on: September 20, 2010, 10:41:30 AM »
Just a thought but at the moment when a CV gets sunk it does not lose its Vehicles, no bad thing apart from to add that better element of strategy would it not be better to have the Vehicles linked to an LCT as are the land based vehicles linked to a VH?

Flame away!  :joystick:

It’s not a bad idea.   Has been suggested before.  Adding a troop carrying convoy .   LST’s LCT’s transports ships with light cruiser and tin cans to escort.  This way the CV would remain out of gun range the LST’s and LCT’s could land tanks on the beach as they did in WWII.

I suggested an amphibous convoy when I first started playing.

The ability to bring tanks ashore, either with LCT or even DD Shermans, adds an element to the game that we currently lack, as a single tank, or even an Osti or WW can run roughshod over LVTs.

LCTs, depending on the variant, carried anywhere from 4 to 9 tanks. Launch as single tank, or post it as a launch mission to have multiple GVs in a single ship. When the LCT is on the water, you have access to whatever light weapons were available on LCTs, usually only a few single 20mm guns. You also have the ability to be sunk. Once the LCT is beached, your screen switches from ship to tank and you're off and running. Not overly realistic historically, but...

DE's (or dare I say, APDs!!) can provide close in 5" support while the task group stays offshore.
