Rudder on keyboard
« on: September 21, 2010, 11:15:50 PM »
As a player who uses a mouse instead of a stick and the "a" and "d" keys for my rudders, I am slightly dissatisfied with my maneuverability.
My main problem is this: when I hold down the A key I would like my rudder to go left, and when I take my finger off I would like the rudder to snap back to center position. However, the rudder stays in that position and It's hard for me to get it back centered without going onto autopilot.
If anyone understood that last paragraph, could they please suggest a way that I could get my rudder to return to normal position when I let off the key? (I probably won't be buying a stick or rudder pedals so that's not an option)
Thank you all!

'S' should center the rudder by default.

20$ or so would get you a Saitek ST-290 that would make a world of difference to your flying.
Puts all the axis at your fingertips, plus views.

But your stubborn I can tell so just ignore me and have fun.  :)

Thanks so much for that tip about S. How did I ever not know that?
And I'll look into that Saitek ST-290, that may be within my price range. Do they last long at all or do they wear out quickly?

Should last anywhere from 6-12 months depending on how much you abuse it.

The trigger on the 290 can be easy to break.  Overall, it's a great buy at $20 and will make the game ALOT more fun.  Even if you DO break the trigger, just map the "Fire all" to a different button and you're back in business.

I used an ST290 for my first year and a half of AH, only replaced it once.  The trigger problem was fixable by opening up the joystick to reattach the little piece that broke off
