Not a huge request - bomber distance
« on: September 22, 2010, 11:30:11 AM »
I would like to have the ability to adjust the distance between my aircraft and my two drones, or perhaps have pre-established formations, line abreast, line astern, echelon right or left.

This provides the ability to widen or narrow the drop pattern, or in the case of echelon formations, allows multiple bombers to effectively work one side of a target. One guy echelon left, one guy normal, one guy echelon right.

The downside is that it exposes one aircraft more than others to enemy fighters, aka, tail-end Charlie, and it reduces the effectiveness of a bomb drop as the aircraft are physically further apart.

But I think its an overall good balance.

Good idea and I don't think anyone will flame you for it...just a question as to whether or not HTC wants to code it.

This would be awesome to implement.  You have to bare in mind that, if you adjust your drones out too far, you will lose them REAL fast in some turns.

For towns and the Capitol, this could be VERY useful.  Have one in the L echelon, one in standard, one in R echelon, or hell, all in line abreast.

What about adjusting your formation while in the air?  Pop up the clipboard map, have an added option for bombers to adjust your formation while in the air.  Say you lose your number 2 drone, but you want to keep the number 3 drone on your L side.  Open the clipboard, choose formations and select the L echelon.  This way, your number 3 would only move to the number 2's spot and stay to the left of your plane.  I may be getting my positions mixed up, but only just woke up..so yeah. :lol  Do correct me if I'm wrong. :aok  However, I believe you understand what I am getting at. :salute

Yes, even if it costs me perks YES.

Distance, and basic formation, line astern, line abreast, Echelon right, left, and of course the V.
Could be as simple as a short list of formations as mouse over buttons. With a small box to input a distance in yards. Parameters being something like 5 - 100.

I think dot commands (.form X where X=1, 2, 3 or 4, and .space X for spacing) would be neat.

+1, Excellent idea, Would also ask that instead of aircraft blowing up when separated from the formation.  The Formation commander could order the aircraft to reform.  Or have them return to the base they departed from  and land.  With their guns performing auto defense if they are attacked.

Is it your opinion that aircraft out of formation blew up doing WWII?   That they just simply exploded and would ‘t have attempted to reform?

Just please don't toss any extras into other's wishes, that's what normally gets them knocked down.
