So What's Your Style?
« on: September 25, 2010, 03:33:39 AM »
As a follow-on to the "what's your style in a 109?" topic, I thought I'd make the question more generalized.

Can you describe your style of fighting in point form?

Here's the two examples from the original post by Perinne

Hartmann style   :airplane:

- stalk-and-ambush tactics
- hold fire until extremely close
- If it's dangerous to dogfight further,  break off and be content with one victory

Marseille style   :joystick:

- prefers high-angle deflection shooting attack and shooting at the target's front from the side
- attacked under conditions many considered unfavorable (diving into enemy formations and risking damage for example), but make an approach fast enough to escape the return fire
- would commit to dogfight to the point of lowering throttle and flaps

So how would you describe your own style?

I'll post mine soon...have to think about it.

Wade in and fly until I die, preferably as low and slow in a turn fight as I can get.

Fly towards the black dots, when they turn red switch to reactive panic mode, prefer low slow turn fights.

Cant break out of perma-newb mode :)

I will wait until I'm less than 200 out (usually) before I fire off one of my 32 rounds.

I let people think I don't know they're on my 6 then at last moment break into barrel roll scissors type action..  Gets them almost every time.

Only take fuel I plan on using.

Muzzy Style Combat [MSC]

Style A: "Rocket Muzz"  :airplane:

-Up in a bleached plane
-Read a book while climbing out
-Find furball.
-Dive down with way too much speed.  Fire. Miss. Overshoot  :cry
-Reverse. Fire, hit, get showered with airplane parts   :aok
-Repeat process until I run out of E
-Hear voice inside head telling me to bug out. Ignore.
-Get shot down while firing BB's at a P47
-Realize Rudboi got me again. Curse.

Style B: "Leaf on the Wind"  :P

-Up from capped field in Brewster.
-Read book while turning in circles to avoid mustangs  :neener:
-Find Spitfires. Turn. Barrel Roll. Loop. Kill. Laugh.  :D
-Fly til Brew is smoking ruin. Flop onto runway. Collect kills.

Style C: "Bombers? MINE!MINE!MINE!"  :salute

-While flying Style A, hear report about incoming bombers.   :)
-Drop everything and start to climb.   :bolt:
-Read book while chasing down bombers. (Three chapters usually.)
-Promise self that this time I will climb above and not fly into tail guns.
-Break Promise to self.  :devil
-If lucky, kill 1 bomber (the left one) before plane is smoking ruin. Ditch. If missing wing, bail.  :joystick:

Style D: While doing any of the above, get shot down while reading a book.  :huh

IMO the real secret to doing well is to be able to switch between various styles of fighting/attack as the situation demands at any one time.  You can find yourself alone with a fairly similar plane and fly like a duelist for a bit, but then as enemy planes get near  you've got to be able to shift gears on the fly.  If you can switch between knife fighting and e fighting and bnz and run and gun and such back and forth as needed, you'll be deadly all the time.  The trick is that it's a mental shift that doesn't seem to be really easy to make.  Fight in all the styles!

actually, the real secret to doing well, is to just do what you have fun at. as long as you're not grieving someone else.

have fun.....the rest comes naturally.
