The new AMD Duron

For those who are interested in CPU performance, here is my spin and some info and links on the new AMD Duron.

The Duron is AMDs new competition for the Intel Celeron, and the Duron puts out some impressive performance.  Darn near keeps up with the PIII and the Classic Athons!

Price difference between Duron and Athlon is minimal. Better go for Athlon or Thunderbird.
For example: Athlon 700 + 128 Pc133 + GeForce DDR = 60 fps 1600x1200 16bpp AH 1.3.
57 fps with hvy clouds. 60 fps 1200x1024 32 bpp. 7-10 fps less for B17.

You are right the price difference is minimal right now. I fully expect the prices of the Duron to drop. When new processors come out, the high end of the line is aways priced high, so it is no surprise that the 700 Duron is about the price of the 700 Athlon.  Also remember that the price of the 700 Classic Athlon is hitting the bottom, which usually signals the end of product cycle.

All in all there are some great processors out there for some really fantastic prices.
