AVA Squad Event Feedback
« on: September 29, 2010, 08:36:48 AM »
Hello All,

A few things that may improve the fun for all in future events:

1) Increase ack lethality.  It simply was too easy to gain a GV foothold on the base last night.

2) Set a time limit of say around 90 minutes or so.  Too much longer and manners and such begin to get a little rough around the edges.

3) Make sure that both teams have a supporting Vbase or airfield, or neither has them.  Ideally of the same type of field.  The Pigs had a supporting Vbase direct connected, and the AVAR's had a supporting Airfield not directly connected.

What are some of your folks thoughts for improving the fun level?  I would like to see these events occur every so often and want the AVA staff to be aware of the players ideas.

Ack lethality-- not a problem, we can set it to MA's or higher, whatever works for everyone

next time: 60 minutes

unfortunately that map did not allow both bases to have supporting bases. no one used the supporting airbase on the Allied side as far as  i know. it was off limits. I should've announced that. sorry. this is still a learning experience.

check out my new post for next challenge proposal, it might be a better setup!

Yes i agree. the POTW flooded us with GVs and killed our vh and we couldnt do anything. think support should be the exact same for each side.

i think an even two hours would be good...just in case some couldnt get there exactly on time, they could still have some time to play.

I know it might be tough to do but what about a Saturday mid day time to allow our Euro players a shot?

I think Tuesday was a good night for it but a weekend event in addition, (not instead) would be great.

does it have to be a special event to get the numbers like we had last night?  I can tell you that AvA is the only reason at this point im still forking over the $15 a month.  I was inches from leaving all together.  Im really hoping that more players come in on a daily basis.  Im in for any all and all events that i can make it to.  I am over the MA.  I need something to keep me going or i cant justify the money spent, not that its a lot but im sure you can all understand where im coming from.

Would anyone be interested in modeling attrition?

We can set max death count delays to anything we want, say after your 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th death you wait for 3, 5, 10, 15 or whatever minutes to re-up again.

Not sure it's a good idea, but just tossing it out there.

Grumpy,

I don't know if we'll hold that high of a number but I do think that, if we try to get in there on a regular basis (and I intend to be in there more event or not), what the staff and others have done are great building blocks towards gaining a solid group of people, like yourself, that will populate the arena on a regular basis.

Jimson

The idea has merit but we might want to hold off on that until we've run through a few events.  I can see someone getting to their five minute 'time out ' and saying 'screw this' and logging.

i dont see it as a good idea either. right now we're playing a game thats halfway between FSO and a snapshot. we have a mission with objectives and rules, and we have unlimited lives so you can get back into the fight. lets just worry about getting people in there for awhile first.

by no means am i dismissing the idea either though. i have also thought about it.

when we do another squad vs avar  id been cool with a 5 min timeout after death. it would sure make ya fly a bitter smarter and try a little harder :airplane:

Ack lethality - we could try increasing it slightly but not near what we have in the mains. Keep it so the players can seldom rely on ack to kill the bad guys in air to air fights.

Time limit - around two hours would be good. Players could show up an hour late and still get a fair amount of game time. I noticed after the first two hours folks patience started wearing a little thin.

The Playing Field - Don't make it perfectly even. Give each side some minor strengths and weakness. The Allies having to spawn GV's from their airbase kept things dynamic and created tactical challenges to deal with.

Schedule - If this could be run say twice a week, at the same time and days it would really help with "when do people fly there" issue we have in the AvA.

Attrition - I'm not sure for this type of "event" if time outs in the tower would make the experience more fun.

These would be my concerns as well.

If this can solidify as a regular well attended event, it might be something to consider for the future to increase the challenge.

On timeouts you can accomplish the same thing by just separating the fields, so a kill has to fly a few minutes to the fight. Not as boring for the killer, but gives some respite for the killee.
