The fastest aircraft in Aces High is the P-47M, but only at high altitude.
The Aces High speed demons are:
Low Alt: The Tempest, 417mph at 6000ft
Med Alt: The 109K-4, 453mph at 22000ft
High Alt: The P-47M, 473mph at 32000ft
Orbital: The TA-152, 449mph at 42000ft
The fastest aircraft on the deck is the Tempest, and its speed peaks at 6k. Above 8k the 109K-4 is faster, all the way up to 24k where the P-47M takes over and is the fastest aircraft in the game peaking between 32k and 33k. Above 40k the TA-152 is faster.
How do I know this?
The other day I was curious about the speed of one of the aircraft in the game. Not sure why now, but I wasn't satisfied with the resolution of the online speed charts, or those on the web page. The graduations were too large, I wanted a graph where I could read the speed and altitude in single figures.
So I've produced a spread sheet that allows me to overlay the speed versus altitude curves, and read them to 1mph on the horizontal axis and within 250ft on the vertical axis.
You will need Microsoft excel for the first version, and you can download it here:
http://www.leonbadboysmith.com/Files/FighterSpeedupload.xlsThe next version has been converted for the free openoffice software:
http://www.leonbadboysmith.com/Files/FighterSpeedOpenOffice.odsYou can overlay up to 8 curves at once. When you click on one of the green cells, a drop down box will appear that will allow you to select an aircraft from a list. You can also select the blank slot at the top of the list. You can also change the graph in any way you want.
Hope someone finds it useful.
