Only 60fps??
« on: October 03, 2010, 12:44:14 PM »
I've noticed that my frame rates won't go above 60.

If I max out everything in the game (anti-liasing half way) 60fps.

If I disable almost everything-60fps.

I'm not sure why this is happening.

I hear of guys in here getting insane fps.

How??

Is there something limiting my system?

Disable V-Sync in the video section of the first screen...used for testing frame rates

You'll probably find the 60fps is the highest your monitor can handle - ie, its refresh rate is 60fps, so the game is constrained to that refresh rate also.

Thanks for the advice!

Now getting frame rates between 290 and 313!!

Haven't got near a graphic intensive scenario yet, but WOW.

Is it cool to leave this V-sync thing off all the time or better to leave it on.

Not sure exactly what it is for.

Do you feel there to be any actual difference in performance between 60 and 313 other than the numerical value?

If you leave vsync off, you'll probably get rubber bullets, tearing etc - I can run over 200 with dual 5770's, but have vsync on and run at 60 all the time, with everything turned on. You wont see any difference by having vsync off visually, but could run into the aforementioned issues.

Unless you are testing your Frame-rates to see how much headroom you have or are benchmarking your system, you should always have V-sync on.

V-sync off can cause all sorts of problems including screen tearing which can damage your monitor.  Also, aside from being able to say you can get 300FR there is no advantage.  Anything above about 75 won't be noticeable unless you have a darn good eye.

Leave V-sync on. 60FPS is faster that the human eye can process, A movie runs about 24FPS, and most TV's run at 24, 25 or 30 FPS.

Thanks for the advice guys.

I had no idea what the v-sync was.

And no---I couldn't really tell the difference with the higher fps.

With vsync off and all the details at minimum I hit as high as 1780 FPS and as low as 560 but why do that?  :huh

With vsync on and all the settings maxed and all the shadows at the highest settings my FPS wanders from 56 to 60. I turned shadow textures down to 4k from 8k for two reasons. First of all the FPS steadies out and second I dont have to worry about memory running low (which shouldnt be a problem anyway).

Everybody has a different setup though and so just to let you know this was the result on a EVGA 780i w. E8400 Vista 64 w. 8 GB of memory and a single GTX 480 @1920x1200. I have been considering testing 2560x1600 resolution by adding another card in SLI but I just finished a week and a half of upgrading my systems so Im in no hurry.

If he has a 60hz display, then visually no. If he has a 120hz display (which he doesn't), then yes.

Always leave vsync enabled, unless you are just testing.  Aces High will run better with vsync enabled.
