how about a player-hosted arena
« on: October 03, 2010, 03:58:07 PM »
I would love to have that feature so i can host fighter matches, like how it's done in IL2 franchise

Would love to host 4v4 or 8v8 Fighter matches
For example:

MUSTANG [D] vs 190 [d-9]
MUSTANG [D] vs HAYATE [ki-84]
MUSTANG [D] vs 109 [g-14]
THUNDERBOLT [D-25/D-40] vs 190 [A/F-8]
THUNDERBOLT [M] vs Ta-152
SPITFIRE [V] vs 109 [F]

etc etc :pray

It's already in the workings. It's going to be sort of like the old AvA arenas. It will be player run, but hosted by HTC

DISCLAIMER: What I'm about to say is only an opinion formed by my own observations. I can in no way back these statements up with any facts, and only present them for the sake of discussion.

It seems to me that the last thing this game needs is more arenas to further dillute the player base. In a time when one goes to the MA's and finds that usually one country is extremely outnumbered, the loss of several players to their own room could be devestating.

It seems to me that a LOT of guys I flew with when I started nearly a year ago are gone now. And I don't see many new guys sticking around after the 2 week trial to keep the ranks filled.

Combine these two factors with a new player hosted arena where 8-16 guys are having fun in their own little world, and you will basically take the "massive" out of MMO. It's bad enough we have these huge maps and nobody to fight.

I see it going something like this: Log in on a Friday night because I'm a boring dork, only to find 120 or so guys in one LWA and 100 or so on the other. Not bad numbers, but the maps this week are huge and the fights have degenerated into 2 big furballs. (yawn) So I check out AvA. As usual it's got a few folks in there, but I'm not in the mood for that tonight. So, I check out WWI.....I up 2 sorties only to get quickly killed by some uber stick in a tri-plane. Well hey, I'll check ou these new player made arenas. I go in only to find that all of the cliques have formed and I really don't fit in very well with any of them. Oh well, still got the DA. I head in, get HO'd immediatly by some guy in a Tempest and then log for the night.

This is my worst case scenario. Flame away.

I think the positive side of having private, player hosted arena... such as for squads to practice, watermelon chat etc before they go out in the 'real world' that is main arena and AvA.

Agreed, but one person was "placed on a pedestal in Rookland" even after he admitted to running hacks in the H2H on other forums.

Isn't that normal for them?

I was talking about the people quickly running to the defense of the "admitted cheat" (H2H or not, it's pathetic).    I lost the respect for quite a few well known players over this issue.   I'd say "Hi", but that was it.

I hated it when they shut down H2H, it was fun as all hell. But I could tell it was coming soon when I saw people launching about 20-30 torpedoes from CV's at one time. Favorite part for me were the custom racetracks people made, and racing B-17's, lol

This is something that also concerns me, especially for the already lower population arenas.

If it is 8 player or less it might not be too bad.

If it is something like 32 player hosted on HTC servers like Il2/hyperlobby where anyone can run a custom 24/7 arena it will be a dynamic change.

When and where did you hear this?

It's been in several threads. Most recently here http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,295635.0.html

Here is my take on it. Average player, gets the ability to make 8 player arena. HTC hosts so they can't be used for cheating, hacking etc. They don't pay any extra, its part of the arena access that paying customers are entitled to.

For an additional 5,10, ?$ a month players can pay for the right to make a 16 player user configurable arena. Yes its perhaps taking a few more resources, but HTC is getting paid for it.

A squadron gets together. Decides they'd love to have a 32 player arena for squad dueling, etc.
Password protected, etc. Squad chips in and for $$$$ (1$ per month per player?) extra dollars a month the squad CO can create and setup that arena. Because its hosted on HTC he doesn't have to be in it, or online even. It can stay up 24/7 giving squad members a place to meet, greet, practice. Because its password protected you don't have problems with outsiders.

I can think of several squadrons that would gladly raise 10 - 25 $ a month for such an arena.
Being able to choose your terrain, settings etc.

Whats more the Squad Dueling League could have a dedicated setup just for SDL.
With a 32 person max you could easily handle 12x12's and a few spectators.
Settings could be set and left so they are the same for everyone, from duel to duel.

Ghosth, just to be clear, the extra fee is your suggestion and is not currently planned by
HTC? I don't recall hearing more than that H2H will return and it will only be for paying subscribers.
