Some OUTSTANDING furball action...Skuzzy/HTC?
« on: October 22, 2001, 08:29:00 AM »
Last night around A44, the Nits gave us Rooks some beautiful action.
Trench flying at it's best!

Problem:  Server/Connection crap.
I know I'm not the only one who saw problems.
For a good hour, everything was beautiful!
We were all flying our hearts out. Many kills, and no talk/whines of warp.
Then, like a wave of bad weather, the text buffer started reflecting the micro warps I was starting to see.
At the same time, the D200 kills I had been getting with ease the hour before, turned into skunks.  My FE still showed the hits, but the server didn't seem to tell the other guy's FE that he should be dead. <shrug>

Why does this happen?
Obviously it's not our home systems or ISPs if it is affecting so many at the same time.

I'm not saying there is nothing wrong with the HTC or Applink but I doubt it as I saw no warping or problems at for the whole evening.  I came in on the ALT route though.

A lot of folks use the same cable ISP providers who also use common back bone (Splint.. hack hack cough cough) providers.

Anyway, the action there was a blast!!  :) We traded scalps several times  :)

Ditto Westy. Unless it was after 12:00 PM EST, with the exception of a warpy knight 109, I had no warps. 1 warpy a/c in 3 hours. Not the server.

I next to never see some one warp, maybe 2-3 times a night and i play for a good 4-5 hours a night.

I was at 44 my self and didnt see any of that last night, you may want to consider your own connection.

you must not have stuck around to long viper because it was 6 knight on 1 rook kill fest for a few hours late in the evening.

I saw ya there Amon.

I was on from the end of the Green Bay bellybutton kicking until 1:00 A.M. Eastern time.  What's that, over 6 hours?
I guess I should say there were more like 5 hours of good weather.

Around Midnight is when things started getting bad.
You can suggest looking at my connect all ya want, but the simple fact is that I had a good connect for a long time.  That prompts me to say LEAVE my connect alone.
Ping and Packet loss didn't change.

As I said though, there was a noticable change in the change if you followed the "Lag Whines" on the text buffer. So, I know it wasn't just me. ;\

Yes Sir Westy, we did have some good scalp swaps.  :)
Mathman too!

I'm not saying it's HTC or APPLINK either, but somewhere there is a common link that hits a bunch of us at once.

BTW, I'm not on a broadband connect.  :(

Aint that the truth, all hell broke loose.

But i will agree before that there was some nice fighting going on, i even got some assistance from the rooks a few times dragging several bandit from there base.

Was quiet nice, id come in real high and fast making a few BNZ attacks near there base and then on my exit of the fight dragging the flying corpses back to the horde of Rooks furballing between the 2 bases.

Had a decent (ok i 6'd pinged him once  :D) chance at ruining Mathmans 11 kill streak until 4 of his E superior buddies thought otherwise, and he even ended up getting the kill. *throws tissue away*  :D

My connection sucked mucho butt on Saturday morning.  I dunno if it was anyone else, but it was definitely on my end of things.  very little variance on net status, but that ping was all over the fediddlein' place.  I could JABO and attack buffs just fine, but couldn't dogfight at all.  All the planes were doing little mini warps consistently.  I couldn't hit any fighters.   :(  More than likely it was something along the way to AH, because my connection to other things (websites, other online games) was just spiffy.

Well,..I looked and looked and could not find any reason for any connects going south for the winter locally.  ALT was in "easy cruise" mode, while MAIN was nearing, "lumpy harley" status at about 10:30 CST.
Oh, "lumpy harley" status is about 75% utilization and some spikes up and down, while "easy cruise" is about 50% utilization and smooth as silk.

FYI: Over 90% utilization is, "She's about to blow!" status.

I should post our glossary one day.  It would make for fun reading  :).
