Man survives passing out with head in museum noose
« on: October 06, 2010, 10:35:58 AM »
The Associated Press

DODGE CITY, Kan. — An Arkansas man got a frightening look at frontier justice when he passed out with a display noose around his head during a trip to a Wild West-themed Kansas museum, officials said.
Police in Dodge City, Kan., have declined to release the name of the 69-year-old visitor from Parks, Ark. They said he lost consciousness Wednesday and slumped in the "Hanging Tree" noose display at the Boot Hill Museum.
Museum director Lara Brehm said museum staff and two women he was with helped remove the man from the noose, and that he regained consciousness before being taken to a hospital.
The noose usually hangs 15 feet in the air, and the museum doesn't know how it came to be hanging low enough for a visitor to reach it, Brehm said. It was hanging in its proper place when the museum closed the night before the incident, she said.
"From what we understand he was using it as a photo opportunity," Brehm said. "We don't know for sure how it came to be where anybody could reach it."
Brehm said it was unclear why the man passed out, and that his feet remained on the ground.
"It was not a hanging in the sense that we use that word," she said.
Brehm said the man remained in stable condition Thursday at a Wichita hospital. She said he had pre-existing conditions that warranted the move to Wichita.
The noose had been hanging where it was since the museum opened 63 years ago without incident, Brehm said. It has been taken down, and officials had not decided another would be put back up.
"We'll make the appropriate decision when we figure out what happened," she said.

Oh my lord....just because a DA decides to take a picture with it around his neck and HE most likely moved it doesn't mean that one incident should make it be removed from the exhibit...PEOPLE WAKE UP AND LET COMMON SENSE REGAIN ITS RIGHTFUL PLACE IN THE WORLD!

If you're dumb enough to stick your head in a noose...

Must have been a cavalcade of ambulance chasers vulching the scene over this. $$$

The next noose will be required to be constructed of some non-allergenic, polar bear safe, non carbon-emitting break away safety fabric yet to be invented; surrounded by multiple signs, fences and a product warning label on the noose itself.
"Then out spake brave Horatius, the Captain of the gate:
To every man upon this earth, death cometh soon or late.
And how can man die better, than facing fearful odds.
For the ashes of his fathers and the temples of his Gods."

This is Darwin at his best. Putting a noose around your neck is like looking down the barrel of a loaded gun - Not very smart.
"It was once believed that an infinite number of monkeys, typing on an infinite number of keyboards, would eventually reproduce the works of Shakespeare. However, with the advent of Internet messageboards we now know this is not the case."

When I was a very young kid living on base (8 yrs old...maybe 1970 during hunting season) we had a guy hang his deer out in one of the carports.  It was quite a sight for the young kids in the neighborhood and attracted many a gawker.  After a day or two he took the deer down but for some odd reason left the noose up.  Well, one day I noticed that one of my neighborhood buds had on odd scar around his neck, almost like a rug burn.  I asked him what happened and he told me that he got up there and put his head in that damned noose and lost his footing.  The guy who originally had his deer hanging up there somehow saw or heard this commotion and ran out to find a young Charles Brown hanging by the throat from a noose he had negligently left up. He saved the kid but barely.  Kids do the damnedest things.

I think I figured it out:

He hates his parents and has been planning this since he was five.

BTW, never leave a ladder against anything either.
