Is Windows a virus?
« on: October 07, 2010, 06:22:08 PM »
No, Windows is not a virus. Here's what viruses do:

1.They replicate quickly - okay, Windows does that.

2.Viruses use up valuable system resources, slowing down the system as they do so - okay, Windows does that.

3.Viruses will, from time to time, trash your hard disk - okay, Windows does that too.

4.Viruses are usually carried, unknown to the user, along with valuable programs and systems. - Sigh.. Windows does that, too.

5.Viruses will occasionally make the user suspect their system is too slow (see 2) and the user will buy new hardware. - Yup, Windows does that, too.

Until now it seems Windows is a virus but there are fundamental differences: Viruses are well supported by their authors, are running on most systems, their program code is fast, compact and efficient and they tend to become more sophisticated as they mature.

So Windows is not a virus.

It's a bug.

Windows is only a virus if you let it do what IT wants to do.

If you take the control, limit what it is allowed to do, control who it can connect to and for what reasons. Then it is no longer a virus, but a tool. A potentially dangerous tool, but a tool none the less.

Don't let it run free, don't let it tell you what to do.

Windows Internet Explorer can connect you to a proxy server and make you think you have a virus or malware......
then you can pay $49.95 for a program (ie. Antivirus 2010) that pretends to be an online scanner for viruses or malware,
meanwhile it takes control of your computer........your hard drive gets so slow......task manager won't work........your A/V does
not detect it.........Spybot does not see it.........no matter what you try......you just can't seem
to fix it........then you decide to format and reinstall the O.S.
...........so you can do it again.  :D

Nope, Windows is not a virus.

Yeah if you're dumb enough to browse using IE you deserve it too! :D

Mozilla is not safe either. When a proxy server takes over........it's over.
