FR test
« on: October 27, 2001, 12:56:00 AM »
I'm curious about how bad my old computer has gotten.  I cant find any posts where people have really done a stress test.  I found that the old WB benchmark of going to a CV  with enemy drones being fired at (here you just go knight) while you idle on the deck and fire your guns, drags FR down the most.  I run in the 40,s most of the time. But this test pulls me down to a FR of 8 real quick.

I wonder what a 1Gig , or there abouts, computer does in this test.

Hmmmm. Thats playable.  My board will take the 600 also.  Thought you had to have a celeron II to use that Gforce.

Mr Ripley, you probably know this, but your video card is limiting your FPS to that level.

Yes Bloom I know this. OTOH 32 fps in an intensive combat situation is enough for me --> not planning to upgrade display card for a few weeks.. =)

Actually I'm surprised how well the mx handles most games when it's backed up by some serious computing power.

1024x768x32, mipmap on, ndisles terrain, knight cv41, engine on sitting on cv deck:

F6F: 41 FPS
F6F (firing guns): 33 FPS
Seafire: 43 FPS
Seafire (firing guns): 35 FPS

Note: no difference in FPS was noted with clutter on or off, although there usually is a noticeable difference when flying from airfields.  This was tested in AH 1.08v4 and 1.07v3 with no significant difference in results.

Abit KT7A, Athlon 1.4GHz, GeForce 256 SDR with 6.34 drivers, 1.25 GB PC-133 SDRAM, Win2k SP2, DX 8.0

Like Mr Ripley, I know my video card is a bottleneck.  I almost bought a GF3 Ti500 the other day, but my FPS in Aces High is good enough (usually 60-70 in flight) it doesn't make sense to upgrade yet.     :)

Of course we could discuss fps til the cows come home, but it is generally accepted that anything over 30fps in a flight sim is very playable. That it occurs in a large, heavily contested area is even better.  ;)
