1 - Does GF3 solve the performance problem when flying near heavy clouds or smoke?

2 - Does GF3 implement a good FSAA system with noticeable results but little or no impact in overal performance?

3 - Does GF3 need a motherboard with AGP-PRO slot?

4 - Is there really an impactant increase of performance/image quality between GF 1 DDR and GF3?

5 - Witch are the best drivers for GForce 1 DDR cards (Creative Anihilator Pro)?

All the above questions, obviously, related to AH performance.

1. No, but it's better
2. Yes (sort of), GF3 includes an improved FSAA implementation called Quincunx. FSAA by it's nature will ALWAYS cause a performance decrease. There is no way around that.
3. No
4. Yes/No
5. All drivers for Nvidia based cards are based off the reference drivers. This means that all the drivers are basically the same regardless of the manufacturer. (This is a good thing actually.)

Turned FSAA off ... getting around 70 fps normally and down to 36 fps IN smoke, clouds etc.. GF3 on p3-933....

1. Absolutely. Not so much before the new drivers, but the lowest my FPS got when diving through smoke at a large field that was completely wasted & smoking was 23.

2. Yes, if you run it at 1600x1200 res with FSAA on it's beautiful, and the only thing that I've found that is better than the Voodoo 5 picture-wise. Definitely impacts performance the more FSAA you use (2x, Quincunx, 4x).

3. Nope.

4. No idea, I previously used a Voodoo 5.

5. No idea here either.

I still haven't tested the card much with FSAA with the new drivers, but I'll give it a try tonight and let you know how the FPS holds up. The first time I switched it into FSAA with the new drivers, the card didn't switch into FSAA mode for some reason. Just haven't tried it again yet.

geforce 3 is a rip off, i got a v5 for 100 bucks and get at least 80 fps with 2x fsaa and a duron 800, 300 dollars for a video card? bs. BTW ur using fsaa at 1600x1200 res?

Yes thats why he got a GF3 not an outa date V5

and why some are prepared to spend the money on a GF3.

All default forward views with beta 14.

GF3 can run Quincunx at 1600x1200 res and be perfectly playable in fact i got some comparisons i did between GF2 Ultra and GF3 somewhere.

GF3 1600x1200 res Quin on
Runway 24fps
Flight 25 to 35 fps

GF3 1600x1200 res Quin off
Runway 53
Flight 80

GF2 Ultra 1600x1200
Runway 49
Flight 63

no i mean u need to use fsaa at 1600x1200? geez ur gf3 must be very bad. tsk tsk tsk. 300 dollars is way to much. v5 get for me around 20fps less than new geforce cards so to me its not worth the extra money. the fact that u todays game are very playable with a v2 and even a v1 is a good example as to why voodoo cards are better than gf. they just had some bad luck and marketing decisions thats was mainly they cause to go out of business

OK smartass, the GF3 does not "need" to run FSAA at 1600x1200 res, but its perfectly capable of doing it to just add that little extra quality to the game at 1600 res.
Something i might add that the V5 cannot do and be playable, hell can it even run 1600 res ?

Yea i guess some of us cannot afford $300, well in UK they cost £320 average, that equates to approx $470 and still people buy them.
If your happy with your card then I am happy for you.
But people will buy the best available card within their budget and if you try telling me the GF3 is not the best currently available to purchase then i will know you truly have your head where the sun dont shine !
The bad luck they had was due to the bad decisions they made, trying to convince there customers you dont want "32 bit colour" as an example.
Well guess what there customers did want those extra features and they went elsewhere to get them.

If you are going to wait until December, get a Kyro3. It will be cheaper than the GF3, and faster.
