WW2 Enlisted Insignia Meaning

I’ve noticed in pictures that some army enlisted men had a ‘T’ below the chevrons on their upper arm rank insignia.

I always thought that T stood for ‘Translator’, but someone told me it stood for ‘Technician’.

Anyone know that answer to that one?

  We had Tech Sgts when I was in the Air Force. Not sure if that rank still exists, but it was probably carried over from that. No T was on the insignia then.

Tech Sgts still exsist in the USAF. It has nothing to do with technical training or AFSC/MOS. It's a normal NCO rank.

US Army used to have them in the E-4 and E-5 ranges (Specialist/ Corporal/ Sergeant). Think if I remember right, didn't they replace them with the specialist insignia with the chevrons?
