Account administration / forum search

1. I was trying to look up my account history. Didn't work, no data is getting displayed. Everything else (change password, account info, email and so on) seems to work fine. Tried it with Opera, Firefox, IE.


2. I was doing an advanced forum search for the word "account", limited to this sub-forum. No thread past 2002 showed up, despite there are coutnless threads with that word in the main body after 2002.
Only when limiting search to topic only, recent threads show up

The account admin stuff has been fixed.  The only function available will be the "Delete Account" link.

The bulletin board search has always been messed up.  The SMF tool for building the search index was not designed for a large board and times out long before it can finish.  If I could stay awake for 72 hours, and keep hitting the button to stop it from timing out, then the index could be built.  Of course the board would have to be offline for that as well.

My solution would be to change bulletin board software back to vBulletin, but that is not a decision I can make and it would yeild a long down time for the board.

Sphinx search (http://sphinxsearch.com) works nicely with large SMF boards. I think somewhere on simplemachines.org forum are few threads about the mod with all the relevant info.

Might be worth looking into it, if you haven't already.

My solution would be to change bulletin board software back to vBulletin, but that is not a decision I can make and it would yeild a long down time for the board.

I can only speak for myself, but I wouldn't mind a scheduled downtime, even for a few days, if the search function would work properly after that.

Sphinx was not a real-time solution.  It has just now gone into real-time, but it is too early in the development to risk it.  The current version of Sphinx will not work with our board.  The SMF folks are focused on 2.x support for Sphinx so the 1.x support is iffy, at best.  I can get it to run once and that is it.

Personally, I think the solution is simple.

Parse all posts older than 2 years old.
Shut down the board for a few days, and transition it to a newer version of SMF or something else.
