Weight lifting builds muscle, makes you heavier, and burns calories. Cardio builds endurance for whatever activity you're doing for cardio and burns calories. Eating more calories then you burn makes you fatter. You can get skinny lifting weights and you can get fat running.

If you just build up your arms like every kid has to do, and you ignore your core, the most important muscles in your body, you will at some point give yourself a nasty injury because you think you're strong but you're actually a weakling with big arms. Squats are the most important exercise you can do. There's a lot of good free information at the crossfit site. Check out the videos by Burgener and Rippetoe.  http://www.crossfit.com/cf-info/excercise.html

All you really need is a flat bench, a squat rack, a good bar and weight set.

Btw the hi-temp bumpers are good and relatively inexpensive.

Switch the curls to squats and you'll have a nice quick workout.

That's right. Working out makes you fat. Even just thinking about buying the equipment from that list makes you fat.  :devil

Actually sitting on your donkey and eating poorly make you fat.  The fact that the two crossfit trainers I know of are fat and getting fatter amuses me :)   I'm sure it's all good when properly mixed with a good diet.  I just don't like them very much.  Or at all :D

Actually this is a subject I know a little more than average about.  You have to find out what your body reacts positively to.  I'm a big fan of split cardio with regular weight training.  There are different routines for different goals.  If you're looking for a lean look then you want to do more reps with less weight.  If you're trying to bulk up you want to do lower reps with higher weights.  Diet is extremely important in a fitness regime.

The best place that worked for me both suppliments and training was Maxmuscle (you can find them online).  But, again, test out various options and find something that works for you.  I prefer working out at home.  Some people prefer going to a regular gym.  *shrug*

I'm actually trying to get back into my old habits but I really hate a 5:00 alarm clock ;)

FLS is right.  Stick to the basics for muscle.

For what you want, do pushups and pullups and starve.  Then you, too, can be a smallish male with abs showing.
