PIII 500 Overclocking

Hi all

I'm no computer whiz so how easy is it to overclock a Pentium III 500, and to what sort of speed?  (got two case fans fitted, will I need anymore?).

I have an Abit BX6 Rev 2 Motherboard with standard BIOS (not brave enough to update it).

Any suggestions, recommendations, anything else I may need?

I'll be grateful for any help at all.

Hi replicant,
             That generation of PIIIs aren't the best for overclocking but you can very likely hit 560mhz(112FSB) without any additional cooling besides the stock fan/HS.
With better cooling you can probably get 585(117FSB) but removing the heatsink on these CPUs can be a real pain and of course voids the warranty. It probably wont hit 620(124FSB) even with good cooling.
   The actual procedure of overclocking with a BX6r2 with the SoftMenuII is incredibly easy and takes 30secs to do but you should really read up on the whole business so you know what you are doing with your machine and what issues you may encounter with your hardware etc. www.sharkyextreme.com   has an excellent guide to overclocking that will tell you all about it in painstaking detail.

Thanks Kbman, I will check the site out!  I've just had to buy a new modem due to a storm so I'm double wary now of overclocking incase I end up damaging it!
