Windows 7 on XP network

we're starting to integrate 7 at work and running some programs in XP mode but all attempts to log on to the network fail. And guess who gets to figure it out?   Any ideas?

you have to go into network settings and set the discovery on and turn off all the protections.

Win 7 does not like to share with XP, even bandwidth.
My son in law connects his win 7 netbook and my ping to HTC goes from 60 - 80 to 260 - 500.

good thing they don't let me play at work huh? Still Googling potential solutions but I have a low threshold for help sites with popups

I'm hearing of some real nightmares with win 7 network browsing and discovery, especially with older windows versions and linux servers. havent had a chance to test it properly on our network yet but am gathering info in the meantime.

no, I don't allow wireless at the office for any reason.

Will advise when I get it running right.

I had poblems connecting to 2003 server with Windows 7 and that was the trick, Disabling IPv6.

First thing I do with any win7 home installation: Disable everything except ipv4 from networking, then remove remote differential compression from add/remove windows components. Obviously for business use you'll want to leave microsoft networking enabled and perhaps also the compression, it only hogs cpu and creates an extra delay to packets which is no biggie outside of internet gaming.
