The only runners in the WW1 arena are the F2b's (and not always) but that's just their preferred fighting style, they always come back. So if anyone ever needs a fight fix, even if you see just one other player in there, you can be fairly sure of a warm welcome and a good old fashioned knock down drag out turn fight. You may not like the rides at first, after the WW2 a/c they may seem a little like toys, but they represent a brutal and visceral era of aerial combat which has it's own appeal. Imagine climbing into a real one and the whole toy thing soon goes away.

No flaps (apart from the torn fabric).
No retractable undercart (unless you catch it on the trees).
No parachutes (unless you do a parachute stall).
No WEP (unless you fart alot)

And with the open cockpits, everyone can hear you scream.

dude if you up a p40 to perk farm dont complain if nobody wants to fight you.  I wont attack a p40 1v1 either, unless i was in a p40 or a zero.  you want to fight your way, other people fight theirs.  look at how the ponies and fw's do their high speed circles then run.

why not? Its not like it has incredible turning ability. It's pretty good but u don't need a zero to hang with it. Ill attack anything I could get within 800 yards of.
Also not attacking it is one thing but would you come back to attack it only if u had a handful of wing men with you?

wanna guess where that doesn't happen?

Yes always good fights in the AvA, if there were always people there, I would live in it.

Oh... my...

wtg upping a p-40b. no reason for anything to run from one since they don't have to turn fight it (and it's not the best with it's under-powered engine) and simply e-fight it, or for the lesser pie-lets out there, BnZ it until someone runs out of gas/ammo, poof dead p-40b.  :joystick:

...and this is the problem with the arenas today. Why should it matter what the other guy is flying, other than using that information to decide HOW your going to fight him.

Why decide your NOT going to fight him? What have you got to loose, 5 minutes to fly back after you've lost? Your looking to waste that 5 minutes anyway trying to run away.

Agree 100%, this is what determines someone that is good or someone that is good at gaming for score.

Unless you never attempt to find out what each plane can do vs another. having no advantage against a plane with advantage etc.,  you will stay in the rut of depending on others to set up a kill for you and forever be worthless alone.

I can probably guess what side the OP is talking about, there is a particular side that seems to exhibit this timidness I like to call the "all or none" crowd, which does this more than the other two sides as a whole, but that would be an entire different thread for discussion.

7 v 1 and I'll bet they tried to HO you too Rat.  Unfortunately, except when you run into one of the rare 'good guys', this has become the norm.

we're working on that......there's generally a few in there around 8 or 9 eastern till about 11'ish eastern. normally, if i log in when there's no one there, i spend about 10 to 20 minutes blowing up crap, and some people come in.....then we has fights.  :aok

::EDIT::
i added a link in my sig to the ava's webiste. check it out. there's a schedule page there, showing what the crew there is planning/setting up. you'd be pretty amazed atg how hard those guys are working. you should also see some of the new maps ranger is working on for us in there. if you join the website, they'll email with special events, and updates of the goings on.  :aok

::EDIT 2::

check the screenshots in this thread.....they're a new terrain that ranger is working on......

Ive had to change my choice of planes because if these runtards and fly plane that can 320 or faster on the deck! If I want to fly a fun airplane I have to go to DA or a mid or early war arena.

It's sad but true. I've had to up Ponies and La-Las just to chased down all the runners. I can't believe how few folks will engage these days.

"people will fight their way..."

OK, it's a free country, but can anyone help me understand why flying round for 10 minutes toward an enemy base, then running from anything you see for another 10 minutes, meeting some friendlies and turning to re-engage only to compete with three friendlies all trying to get a ping on the same bandit, and flying back to base to land 1 assist...is a "way" that anyone would want to play the game?  :rolleyes:

Challenge you're one of the people that play this "way". Can you explain why simply staying alive for long periods of time is a goal, even if it means not engaging anyone, ond/or flying around in a corner of the map where there are no cons? If that's the case, the Tower is the safest place to stay alive and has the added benefit of not waisting other people's time. I recommend hanging out in the tower and seeing if you can set a record for staying alive the longest.

The problem with this "way of playing" is that it is antithetical to the object of the game, and hence is very inconsiderate to those that waste time on you. You are not in a vaccuum. If you fly your plane out into the arena, people will invest time trying to engage you, because that's the object of the game. If your pupose was to lure them up to you, so you can run, than they do have a legitimate complaint about your "game play style".

When you play tennis, do you ask to serve first, then bounce the ball for 40 minutes "preparing to serve" until your opponent walks off, at which point you serve with his back to you and yell "10-luv" when he doesn't return it? Would you then pride yourself on never having lost a point in a tennis match? Don't you think the person you were playing, who paid for court time, and gave up time with their friends and family or Job to have a tennis match with you, would have it right in thinking you're a jack---?

People should play as if what their opponent's time and fun matters because it's a game. Sportsmanship is paramount.  :salute

In mind little mind the problem with a refusal to engage w/out securing every possible advantage of speed, numbers, alt, etc. is that It's ultimately going to be self defeating and preventing the player from moving on and developing a more rounded skill set.   We all learn by doing, experience and repetition.  I could read all the books I could get my hands on about ACM and air combat theory but until I go into the game and try it out I won't really learn and understand it.

If the goal is ultimately improve so that when faced with something less than the ideal situation the player will be able to handle it and emerge victorious than the only recourse is to put yourself in that situation and learn it.  The problem is that for most of us, learning is oftentimes uncomfortable because we're facing a new scenario and haven't yet equipped ourselves with the tools to handle it.  What that means in the game is violent cartoon death which can lead to real world frustration and anger.  The trick becomes how to mix in enough success with the failures during the learning process to keep on going.
