Frame Rate bench mark for AH
« on: July 07, 2000, 08:36:00 AM »
I haven't seen anyone post a benchmark for checking FR so I will do the honors:

~Offline, go to A1, time of day default.

~Select B17 1000 lb bombs

~select South spawn point of runway and select fly

~Check Frame rate counter looking straight ahead, write number down.

~Start engines

~Check Frame rate counter looking left, write number  down.

~Check Frame rate counter looking right, write number down.

Post your Resolution, Bitmap color (16, 32) and your 3 numbers for your FR marked appropriately, and what your system and video card is.

I would like to see some results of other OS, I just upgraded to a PIII-550 and want to compare to see if I'm optimizing my system.

This will possibly also  help future players for reference in optimizing their systems by bench marks of other OS.

Thanks!

FORWARD=32

LEFT=44

RIGHT=42

CELERON 466@525 MHZ

256MB PC 100 SDRAM

V770 TNT2 32MB (standard-not Ultra)

1024x768  32 bit color

Caveat- not all players POV will be set to the same posistions,making FPS readings vary.

Heya Rip, this has been discussed before, and there was a 'procedure' established. Been a while tho, a search will prob bring up the old threads.

I remember going to the belly turret gave me the lowest FR reading, and especially when looking at the tower. We were defaulted to only one direction of take off back then, and I remember having to rotate to the left to get tower in view (I think hehe).

Anyway, do a search of this NG and see what comes up.

Good point Jihad, so discard  the side views, go with front view as standard , ya think?

Will do Tshred, as jihad pointed out, I doubt the POV views each player has set up will do much good ie. turret view.  Will check it out.

I have a PIII-550, 128 meg ram, Creative TNT2 Ultra,running 1024 res with 32 bit.  I can only get 24 FPS in this benchmark, only a 5 FPS improvement over my old PII-350 chip...weird, expected better performance than that, maybe more ram! Dunno.

 I forgot to add my V770 is overclocked-memory 185,core 150. Also from past benchmarking related to WB it was found that higher FSB also makes a difference in FPS benchmarks,my FSB is at 75 with a 1/1 divider 37.5mhz AGP bus speed vs your 33mhz AGP bus speed with a 2/3 divider,every little bit helps.

Hi folks,
          Fradim has benchmark page with a protcol for AH and a results table. Go to  www.grandeavenida.com/fps  and go to the AH page. That said, I think we need to bump heads to develope a better protocol as the one used there has the clipboard open which tends to flatten results to the lo end. It also uses cntrl-C to turn off ground clutter
which can vary results widely.

    WRT jihad's results, it's not the 256MB RAM. He is a master tweaker and has used a 3rd party utility called AGP Info to change the RAM timings and other AGP settings of the BX440 chipset to obtain his excellent performance. I have a post titled : Performance and the V770 Ultra, which gives an overview on getting the most from your system. It does not include the AGPinfo tweak
but hits most other points for improving performance. Start there and see what you can get from your box. If you want the AGPinfo utility I will send it to you but I have not used it yet and it is fairly complicated and requires an understanding of how the chipset works that is more than most folks have There are no instructions for what settings to make so you really need to know what you're doing to achieve success and not blow up your box. Everything on my box is pushed way over spec already so I didnt want to risk it right now and you really need to do some reading up on the chipset functions before you can expect to do it right.
     We should all work out a suitable protocol and post our results to Fradim's page. He deserves alot of credit forhis workand it could and should be an excellent resource for evaluating performance of your present rig and informing any future purchases. No time right now to do the benchmark right now but I'll post back later.
