Saitek X36 Combo USB - throttle wont be recognized.
« on: July 07, 2000, 03:50:00 PM »
Have bought the X36 USB instead of my old Sidewinder USB.
After installing software (SGE 1.4) and plugging the Combo set in, Windows will not recognize the throttle - only the stick.

Have DirectX 7.0a (and reinstalled it), Windows 98 first edition, but with service packs.

I guess Ill go downtown tomorrow and buy Win98 SE, just to see if that works..

Anyone with a bright idea that can save me the money?

airreapr my squad mate , deleted all game drivers then that controler would "have" to take the right one for X36 USB combo . He had win 98 not the SE . You might give that a go .

Don't sound like the same problem though ? But sure worth a try as it's a "free" fix .

cheers spro

I know this is kinda basic, but I think I should mention it just in case. When you go to Windows, game controllers you should only see one entry line for the Saitek x36 Controller. You won't see the throttle listed. When you hit properties it will open a window with all the buttons etc. available to test and a throttle bar will be at the top.

I expect you've done that and still don't see the throttle moving in the bar. Aside from running the special nuke USB utility provided on their web site, and then installing again, I would try contacting them or at least checking the web site before buying Windows 98SE. They may have a quick answer for that particular problem.

I do think you're on the right track with the Windows 98 SE thing, because they do clearly state that you need the service pak while the 98SE is fully compatable. I would check with them first in case there's and easy fix.

I wish you luck. Hope you get it running, because it's an excellent stick.

You don't think the twist rudder function on the old Sidewinder USB stick is interfering with the rudder setup on the Saitek x36 do you?

Just another idea.

Good news.

My profile sets the rudder flapper as a flap switch. If you want to use the rudder flapper for rudders I would suggest you put the rudders on the upper wheel. That wheel currently is used to toggle wheels one way and brakes the other. Both of these can be done on the keyboard with ease during landing so you won't miss them.

Set up the wheel as a toggle to turn right it would toggle 1 notch down flaps. Turn left 1 notch up flaps. Make it so you toggle it once it goes down, bring it back to center in the deadband area I already set up in the command area, and then each time you toggle into that area it give the flap down command.

Sounds hard, but all you have to do is replace my wheel commands for wheels and brakes with the flap up flap down commands and it should work like a champ.

That way you can leave the rest of the commands as is. Just hit the gear key before landing, and use the space bar for brakes.
