Just got rid of this off my sons machine once I got him to stop panicking and listen to me LOL

Trend seems to be that shortly after one of my kids picks something up. Someone here does too.

Not everyone has malwarebytes. Or bothers to keep it updated.
Problem is, when this happens the virus in question can block their use as was the case of my son, And about 75% of the people I end up helping out (friends family etc)
And often it wont let you access the internet to get them.
Which is why I keep an emergency toolbox flash drive.

In the case above. You actually have to first fix Windows Registry Shell value. Then run RKill . Great little tool that shuts down (but doesnt get rid of) anything that could be malicious
I put it on every machine I work on

And only then can you even bother trying to run Malwarebytes

Remember that once your computer gets infected no tool can reliably scan it anymore. The virus can have rootkitted the OS and actually block AVs from detecting it.

Best is to scan the machine with a bootable linux cd -based scanner like f-secure rescue disc.
