Modified my case
« on: November 01, 2010, 04:38:06 PM »
Just got a new Power Supply Installed in my system to replace a no-name brand.
I did some minor case moding. Thought I'd share my system.
System Specs.

GIGABYTE GA-EP43T-UD3L LGA 775 Intel P43 ATX Intel Motherboard

GIGABYTE GV-N98TOC-1GI Rev 2.0 GeForce 9800 GT 1GB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor BX80570E8400

G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-2GBNQ

Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound - OEM

180 Gig SATA WD

300 GIG EIDE Seagate

Modified quite a few things in the case for new fans. It is a bit loud, but I could care less, some might not like the ambient noise

The fan came out out of a blown PSU. I removed it keeps my case alot cooler now.
Heres the mod to the MOLEX Conector.

Heres the old system witht he old old PSU

This is the side panel with CPU Tunnel

This is the new PSU installed, and I decided to put in an additional fan to blow across the Northbridge.

This is basically done.

I also ordered some new filtered belzels for the front and here she is

And this is the user end of it all. I also use all of the joysticks too.

Forgot who said this while trying to take a base, but the quote goes like this. "I cant help you with ack, Im not in attack mode" This is with only 2 ack up in the town while troops were there, waiting. The rest of the town was down.

I'd be worried about your zip-tied fan coming loose and damaging something, but hey.. whatever works for you!  Good job on the front fan!

I've found that the bigger the fan, the less noise it creates... perhaps because it doesn't have to spin as fast to get the same airflow...

The first fan shown looks a lot like one I got from Radio Shack one time.  It moves a lot of air, but some real aircraft make less noise.

If it makes you happy though, that's all that matters.

Nice to see another Gyro Gearloose here  :) Reminds me of once making a CPU cooler airduct from a milk carton. For those about to laugh: It dropped the CPU temperature from about 60 to 40 in game.

In case you'd like to make it quieter, just change the front cooler voltage to 5v. It will probably run with that, slower and quieter and still do the job. In general, it's usually more important to boost the outflow. A powerful fan blowing in can even make things worse by making the air whirl inside the case instead of flowing through it. Here's some basic information about the subject.

Your CPU heat sink has so much dust on it the efficiency is probably effected. I would bet it has not got much of a finish to the mating surface either.
If you like the Sick Puppy Custom Sound Pack the please consider contributing for future updates by sending a months dues to Hitech Creations for account "Chalenge." Every little bit helps.

I found these filters are great, installation couldn't be easier and there is no need to open the case to clean them.

nah thats at the top level, thats really nothing. Maybe next month I'll clean em. My cpu run about 40c full throttle. 9800 about 51c, northbridge dropped to about 42c now, was at 48. The added benifit fromt hat fan, it wisks air to the mem, and then out the side, with the gpu. Good airflow, a tad bit loud for some, but i use good speakers/headsets. Whn i kick in the subwoofer, its loud. Very loud, and fans are not even heard at all.

Glad you enjoyed it. I am now. so time to go blow someone up.

Thank you for those links to those filters, very kewl.
I will be using those in a few months.

Heres the finished though.
