My friends and I went cowtipping on a moonless night once. We could barely see a hand in front of our drunk faces. We aborted the mission when my friend Al peed on an electrified fence.

That brings up a question.  Why does it always feel better to pee on something (fence, bush, tree, etc.) than to just hit the ground?  Anybody have an answer?

It's been a few years but in Al's case, I'm not sure he knew he was peeing on anything in the pitch dark.   That is until the blue/white arc traveled up the stream of pee and into his body.

Mythbusters said..... highly unlikely.

I think some folks prefer peeing on something instead of the ground because their inability to aim well precludes anything too far away.

I don't know about that.  When there's snow on the ground it's a much better target.

Never tip a cow more than 15%---they'll just blow it all on beer anyways!!

Actually they said highly unlikely for getting electrocuted  by the third rail of a subway train.  They tested both and found the fence thing to be plausible.
In any event, I saw it happen.  I was looking in the general direction, and to this day, can still see the 12 inch or so arc of light in my minds eye.  Then Al was laying on the muddy ground, unhurt relatively speaking, but peeing all over himself.(in the fews seconds of stunned silence, we could actually hear his pee landing on him.)  I'll never forget it.
It took him several seconds to say anything intelligble. I remember falling to my knees, howling with laughter. I crack up just picturing it in my mind.

My uncle owned a large dairy farm in upstate NY. Since he had 1500 acres of land, we'd always party in some remote corner with a keg of beer. One night, couple of my buddies on the football team got into the conversation about cow tipping and decided to try it.

Despite me telling them not to, they tried. It was absolutely hilarious to watch. First off, most milk cows don't sleep standing up. Many will go into a very relaxed state after they eat, as it helps with digestion. Many people assume they're sleeping, but they're not.

Anyway, 240lb. defensive lineman runs broadside into a 1200lb Holstein. It was like running into a brick wall. Leveled him. To add insult to injury, the cow turned on him and stepped on his leg, breaking it.

Having spent most of my childhood on a farm, I've never seen it happening.

Course, I never saw a cow hit my an aircraft, either.

Where about in Upstate NY?

Ah very cool. We have a hunting camp south of Massena in a little town called Childwold. Nice land up there.

I know exactly where it is - on Rt.3 sorta near 56. When I lived at home I used to ski at Big Tupper (now long closed) and we used come down through Potsdam on 56.

Small world.
