I use Windows 7 with no issues.

Not sure what the "sp1 (rc)" means though.

SP1 = Service Pack 1

RC = Release Candidate...

Basically, it's a BETA version of Service Pack 1.

I have not tried it, heck this is the first I've even heard of it.

Read in some forums that you will have to uninstall it when the final version is released which will mess up a lot of people.  Better create an image backup just in case.

No Microsoft Betas for me, thanks!  <shudder!> Windows 7 Pro 64-bit works fine for me with the current updates, though.

I installed sp1 beta (pre rc1) on a test rig and saw no difference in anything. I uninstalled it a few days ago in anticiapation of the final release. I more than likely won't install the rc and just wait for the rtm.

I believe (EDIT: confirmed) that Thurott said the SP1 was basically all the patches bundled into one so if you have kept up on updates and security issues then it shouldnt make a difference except for a minor change in the remote desktop.

Well really typically that's what a SP usually is, at least the biggest part of it.

Sometimes they'll add a couple of features, and change the default behavior of a few things... but it's kind of like a official point in which new disk images can be made for retail releases.

Because of this, I don't really see much point in trying a Release Candidate of a Service Pack.  If I were having specific issues that the SP was supposed to correct maybe, but for maintenance reasons I don't see the point.. at least not until the RC is out of beta.

Besides, Windows 7 really is just a "Service Pack" of Vista, right?  heh

Correct!  :)

The service packs are a great time to wipe the hard drive and reinstall. Or if you havent bought Windows 7 yet it looks like spring time will be a good time next year.
