Why is CH product "The Best to get" ??
« on: November 03, 2010, 10:28:33 PM »
Everyone I asked, including HTC, said that CH Pedals are the way to go. Everyone seemed to be very happy with how their CH pedals worked, so I got some CH pedals for myself. I'm not sure what you all see in this product. It only lasted me half a year before it started to act weird on me. Now, almost a full year later, it is beyond my tolerance limit. It continuously becomes uncalibrated mid-flight to the point where I'm not even touching the pedals but my rudder is kicking back and forth like a fish out the the water. Everytime my computer goes to screen saver or sleep mode, the pedals seem to just "disconnect" from the computer and will never respond until I restart the computer. Even when they are working, they aren't working. I can be applying full left rudder, but in game I will only be getting half rudder. I'm not sure why these pedals only lasted my half a year, I took good care of them like I do everything I own. Is that just how long CH products are suppose to last? If that's the case I'm getting Saitek Pedals since my X52 controller is still working like new even after 2 years of use.

Basically, this thing has been an absolute pain in my butt and I'm done with it. I'll just go back to my twisty stick again until I get a new pair of flight pedals.

Just what did you all like about these pedals that I find to be nothing but trouble?  :huh And, what would you recommend I look into for new pedals?

My Simped pedals have been problem free, though I don't know if they are still made.

Unfortunately, you just got a bad set of pedals, it happens and luckily with CH gear it's a very rare thing.  You should have contacted CH support and gotten an RMA to send in your pedals so they could either rebuild it or send you a new set if they couldn't fix yours.

Im on my second pair of CH pedals. When the potentiometer got worn on the first pair after ten years I ordered a new potentiometer installed it and then gave the pedals to a squaddie who is still using them.
If you like the Sick Puppy Custom Sound Pack the please consider contributing for future updates by sending a months dues to Hitech Creations for account "Chalenge." Every little bit helps.

Actually everyone I've talked to says CH sticks are the best.

I've never heard anyone say that CH pedals are. In fact in my opinion Saitek pedals are considerably better than CH.

Pedals in general are going to cause a considerable amount of pain to learn to fly all over again.
The key is to just put in the time, especially in the TA. (not so hard on the ego)

I've been playing with a set of Saitek pedals this week, and for takeoffs and landings I love them.
They are smoother than a twisty could ever hope to be. And the increased realism helps feed my immersion.

Now In combat I'm still having issues twisting my hand like crazy with nothing happening while my feet are 2 min behind going "hey whats up boss? do what? "

I've had CH pedals for several years and never had a single problem with them.  This is the only time I've ever heard of a CH product being wonky.

Latrobe it sounds like you have 2 issues.

Check your USB power settings and set them to never go to sleep to save energy.

If your pedals are under warranty you can send them back for repair or replacement. If they are out of warranty just flip them over and take the bottom section off. Look for a chafed or broken wire. If the wires are good you may have a bad rudder pot but they are easy to replace. I have CH pedals that are 10 years old and still work well.

My CH pedals were kind of acting the same way.  I'd be on autopilot, and then all of a sudden the pedal would spike and kick me out.  I'd have to stomp each pedal all the way forward and back to get them to act smooth again.

I sent them to CH under warranty, and they came back "nothing's wrong, but we replaced the pots anyway."  Were good for a month or two, then started acting up again.  I finally got fed up and took them apart - even though they were still under warranty (I think).  Looked like the main springs that center the pedals had slipped a little on the mounting pegs.  I put them back and they've been good ever since - almost a year now.

I have the full Stick/Throttle/Pedals setup from CH and really like the stick compared to some I've tried.  Haven't had any issues with stick or throttle.

First thing I did was take the bottom off thinking maybe something got inside it. Everything looked fine, just a little dirty. Cleaned it out, and it still act wacky. I don't think I have a warranty of my pedals.

I've heard nothing but good things about their customer service.  Can't hurt to just ask them..

Good luck either way

If a wire is chafed it would probably be where it goes through the tight slot on the little tabs. You can order a new pot from CH if you want to try a replacement.

The disconnect after sleep or screen saver sounds like the USB power setting issue.

I've had problems with my x52pro stick connections getting loose and messing up my calibrations, of course mid dogfight. My pro peddles have never been a problem and the throttles have been great too. I am thinking about picking up a CH stick. I don't think I need a Warthog though. I'm finding just the sticks in the $100 range.

Thoughts?

I got my CH pedals as a door prize at the WarBirds Con in Raleigh back in 2000.  The only problem I've had in ten years is that the toe brake function on the right pedal died a few years ago.  I've just been too lazy to replace that one pot, so I run both brakes off the left pedal via the AH setup.  Silly, I know...

I also have the CH Fighterstick and the Pro Throttle. If I power down my computer but leave the standby power running, all of my USB gear goes wonky, including my TrackIR.  Then I have to completely shutdown ALL power.  I do not have a problem when my machine goes into screen saver, and I don't use the Windows hibernate or standby.
