Hiyas,

It was suggested that I check my IRQ settings for problems, and well, I do have things sharing IRQ's, but I dont know if it is bad or not. My computer seems to be running fine, network, games, blah blah I just am getting a little bit of a FR loss in AH (about 20 frames).

Here are my IRQ Settings:

00 - System timer
01 - Standard keyboard
02 - Programmable interrupt controller

Yes, there are two VIAs on 03 and yes 05 is empty?

As far as my system goes, I have 1 hard drive, 1 CD-RW drive, 1 120Mb Floppy drive, sound card, video card, network card, usb card and thats it. This look normal?

You do have a mess on your hands nimitz.

1) The SBLive card drivers do not play well with others. That it is sharing your USB bus interrupt is not good. You should be able to set the SBLive card to IRQ 5 without too much trouble, as long as the USB IRQ and the PCI slot your SBLive card is in, are not hardwired together. In that case you will have to move your SBLive card to another PCI slot.

2) Your Ethernet card and hard drive controller are sharing interrupts. This could be pretty interesting. Do you get a lot of discos in AH? This might be the source of the problem.

If you are not using your COM ports, you can go into the motherboard BIOS and disable those ports. This will free IRQ's 3 and 4, wcich can be assigned to PCI cards.

What Skuzzy doesn't say is how to ensure your SB Live goes on IRQ 5: just mark IRQ 5 as a legacy device in your BIOS

Skuzzy, what language were you speaking?

Thanks for the information, but could you walk me through how to do what you are saying? I have tried to manually change ports inside Windows, but no love. So, ... I guess this means I could try to move the card to another port - but if it is possible to fix the problem from the BIOS I would be willing to try that as well.

I dont have a ton of discos, had 11 last tour...not too bad. But I am experiencing NASTY FR loss in this new patch, going all the way down to 20 in smoke with GF2 Ultra and 1.2G Athlon.

Ok, got everything taken care of. I got my sound card and video card standing alone now, and network is sharing with USB.

Still toejamty FR tho ;/

What version of DirectX you runnin?
How long since a fresh install of windows?
what version of drivers are you running for the video card and soundblaster?

Runnin' 8.0a DX8, freshly re-install of Win98SE, 12.41 drivers (21.83 dont help) and latest SB drivers.

Any advice Rocket?

Go here Detonators to download the latest Detonator - 22.50. This set cleared up probs I was having with the 12.41's, and gave me a bit of an improvement on Frame Rates too.
