Cromwell IV
« on: November 07, 2010, 06:48:56 AM »
I think a Cromwell IV would be a great addition to the GV set.
A British tank would be a welcome introduction.

I believe it to have been quite fast with a powerful 75mm gun (HE & AP)

It looks like it would sit well among the M4s, and Panzers. However, it may be slightly more vulnerable due to it's vertical armour.

It was use extensively by the British 8th Army. (Desert Rats) during the invasion of Germany 1945.

The similarities between the Cromwell and the Tiger are purely coincidental.

The Cromwell is based on a Christie-suspension cruiser tank concept, the Tiger, obviously is an armored box with a big honkin' gun.

Cromwell's best defense was speed and maneuverability. The Tiger - it's 88mm gun and 150mm front and 80mm side armor.

Looking at wikipedia. I see the Cromwell's max speed at 40mph, and the Tiger's at 28mph.

Perhaps the speed would balance the vertical armor weakness against the M4, and make for some interesting tactical deployment.

Sounds like it has similarities to the T34 Russian tanks.

Articulate Ron.... very nice!!!  The biggest difference between pinko tanks and everybody else is the sloped armor.   :aok

I have to admit a little favouritism.

My uncle Ron commanded one with the 8th Kings Hussars through Normandy, and successfully on to Hamburg, liberating Belsen camp on the way.

He was one of many that took the victory salute in front of Monty, and Winston in Hamburg.

I'm a very proud nephew..!  :salute
