perma-squelch
« on: November 08, 2010, 10:43:40 AM »
Ever have that guy who just wont stop yelling every time you log in therefore making a squelch happen every day? i think it would be nice to have a permenant squelch button in the game. Tell me what you think.

It's been brought up before and seems to have a good deal of support here on the boards.  If memory serves HT doesn't care for the idea, I've thought about it a bit over the years and I have to say I don't think it's good in the long haul.  Over the years I've been here I've had a few characters that used to raise my blood pressure a bit, and I didn't care for their company much at all.  If I had a perma-squelch list they would have been on it, the only thing is now I count some of those people as friends here, and I'm a firm believer that it's the friendships that keep people subscribed and coming back more than anything.

You have a point but what if the screaming and yelling just continues and you dont care to un-squelch them?  :headscratch:

They won't do it because they clear out the names every now and then to allow them to be reused. So "DingBat1" is a pain in the butt and you put him on perma-squelch. 6 months down the road he quits or changes his name and some new guy takes the name DingBat1 he will be perma-squelched.

either that or have the squelch list last the entire tour.  Reset it at the start of each tour

So you have a squelch list and the guy that was squelched changes his game ID.  Ta-da.  Then the newbie comes along that likes that old game ID (not knowing a thing about the history of it) and grabs it, but no one will talk to him.  Awwwww, poor newbie.  With no one to talk to, he cancels his account thinking everyone in the game is a snobby numpty.

Next you will suggest for us to keep a list of all the game ID changes and send them to your computer so the game on your computer can check for any game ID changes in the list and correct them.  After 3 hours and thousands of names being downloaded, you can then start playing again, until someone else changes thier ID.

Gee, that sounds like fun.

if somebody is insulting you or harassing you, then make a recording ah will take care of it.  he/she wont be part of the game too long.  if it is somebody like me that gets too much into the game and gets excited while talking then not much of a choice.

as for the permasquelch, it wont happen.  ah already said that a zillion times.
