I got a bit bored and have heard occasionally people saying that the player base isn't growing anymore or that it's shrinking (and as shown it's staying about the same really).  It's only for the forums since I'd have to dedicate and entire weekend to online arena stats and this is more of the Pie-covered-Snail's area, but I know some people love their little ol' charts.  Maybe Snaily will do something with active players in the arenas (best way I can see it happening would still not include a large portion of players though), also there are over 1600 active players in LW alone last month according to the scores page (assuming there is a player for every #).  On to Charts!

This is starting from Feb 08 when the boards got reset (and Feb had no stats really), based on a per month stat:

An average of ~228 new members per month per month.*


  An average of ~34,047 per month.*


  An average of ~15 posts per topic.*



*For anyone who forgets, average is all the Data from X divided by the amount of data series. Ex: 5,000 members divided by 32 months.

The spikes in "Most online" correspond with updates, notably the March 2010 one is when WWI was released, and the October 2009 was Version 2.16 (still unsure what happened in 2.16 as the announcements don't say but I believe it was the P-47M as 2.17 fixed issues with that plane).  Around June 2009 is when they implemented the new Terrain change with the beta testing.

Once everything steadied out after the Bulletin Board reset it's stayed about level since then with some drops and some spikes, and this is only the forums and I know plenty of people don't use them that play the game.

If you define "active player" as one who has killed or been killed at least once during a tour: 4139 players. With 93551 played hours and 1755 recorded base captures

That's how I checked but since I'm not as good with the stats stuff I just used some random names I know and checked their ranks and I could only get as low as 1600.

Go Snaily, go!  We need charts!  Maybe comparing a few months before the arena split, some after, and current months since that's what people attribute any "decline" to.  I was going to try that but I have no idea of how to get stats on # of players per month (or hours/base caps for that matter) short of comparing every squad of 2+ players to their active members, but that leaves out a very large player base.
Plus I'm stepping into your grounds, it's a dangerous area for sure!

To get the total number of "active" players you  have to check the stats for each object (plane, gv, gun). As the names of all pilots are being displayed who got a kill or died in it, you now simply have to compile  them all into a list. As we are at object #111 now, it  just takes some time

Getting info like played hours, base captures and so on is much more tedious. You will have to do that for every single player.  
I have done that only for a few selected tours. Mainly to see if "total arena tour kills" (my main way to measure activity) does relate to total hours played, and to see how the new towns did change the rate of base captures.

Interesting New Members Chart, from Feb 08 to Oct 2010.. 7,318 new members but how many actually stayed beyond the 2 week free trial, that would be some interesting figures

this is only forum accounts and has nothing to do with new members in game. nothing.
There are a lot of players that made a forum account only after playing AH for years.
