Launch area was estimated to be 35 miles off the coast.  This was a sub launched missile and not a cruise missile.  This was a ICBM.  Look at the film.

I think it's far too soon to say what it was, but I'd have a hard time believing that wasn't missile.  CNN's saying it could have been a plane, but I've never seen any plane contrail like that before.
Afk for a year or so.  The name of a gun turret in game.  Falanx, huh?

I saw an interview on FOX and they said the same thing, possibly a plane?  A plane?  Really?  I think id believe the swamp gas or supersonic balloon theory posed before i would believe a plane.

The good news is they have absolutly no idea what it was.......but they know were all safe from it.  :O

IIRC any rocket over 2 lbs (with engine) needs FAA clearance to launch.

I'm not sure if that is the requirement, but these are much larger.

CNN interviewed a guy that says it is all perspective. That is the contrail from a jet. It is not vertical but coming at the cameraman. The trail leads over the horizon. The vehicle is way too slow for a rocket.

I looked at pics and the film again...... I think he may have nailed it.

A rocket coming going horizontal-ish in your direction could appear to be moving quite slowly.

What I'm really wondering is what happens after the end of the video.  It seems a bit odd that they'd get this thing in their viewfinder then just leave it.

lol, now they're saying that apparently it could have been an errant launch.  I don't know what would be worse: military/someone else pressing big red buttons that they really shouldn't be pressing, or some unknown BAMF launching missiles off your coast for the lulz.

From that article: ""The local station chopped up the video and so it's hard to watch it continuously," Pike said. "But at one place you can see it has changed course — rockets don't do that.""  BS

Irrelevant video is mostly irrelevant, but still cool looking towards the end: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=baEux7jd-ZE

It appears like a missile launch but weird how the object does not seem to move. also the camera moves around quite a bit.

Looks to me like an airliner flying toward the camera at altitude more than it does a missile.

Just how obvious?  I saw a glint and reflection for a split second through a pretty significant mirage making it not possible to determine exactly what it is I'm seeing.

I can say whatever it is doesn't look like a missile.
