I gave up on boxing when the first Lennox Lewis/Holyfield was rigged and Holyfield held the belt after losing 8 rounds.    Boxing is still rigged for money and I refuse to give a penny to it.

UFC has long been a favorite and a hell of a lot more involved.

The thing about UFC is this: As an ex-bartender, I've seen (partook in) enough of those type of fights that I really don't get excited anymore.

I enjoy watching the sweet science because the fighters are handicapped to using their fists. ( Sometimes elbows, sometimes heads.)

Every punk, juvenile delinquent that I run into is "Training" for UFC....... :rofl

This is a boxing thread, so piss off. Dumb bellybutton midget. :lol

You've seen a triangle choke or a gogoplata in a bar fight? I highly doubt it. MMA is more then a glorified street fight, you have to know many different martial arts to even stand a chance. Thats why you highly decorated boxers like James Tony get dominated in the first round. Boxing is dead. Can you even name a current heavyweight champion? I sure as hell cant.

Sunfan and Masherbrum both have valid points.

The judging system has some serious flaws in my opinion. (I consider corruption a serious flaw)

Sunfan, I understand exactly what you are saying, and while I realize that MMA fighters are very dedicated to their craft, most ( if not all) would be decimated in a boxing ring. Being deprived of all the kicking, grappling, etc. would seal their doom. It's the same for a boxer entering the octagon. They train all their lives to keep feet on the floor, and now they are confronted with a totally new kind of fight. Two completely different disciplines.

Don't rule out boxing just yet fellas. I have a feeling that tonight's fight will pump some new life into the sport. I think that after Manny destroys his opponent, Mayweather just might have no more excuses left. If Mayweather still refuses to fight the winner of this match, he will be dead to the boxing world.

Exactly. UFC fighting is really little more then the kind of street fighting we were doing back in the 70's after the various kung foo movies became popular.
Everyone and their brother started fighting using a mix of the two.

YES UFC is more refined and the competitors skilled. but its really no different then your average street fighter was doing 30 years ago

in childhood, he missed classes to sell cigarettes on the street- augmenting their family income to buy food.
at age 14 he ran away to work as a welder by day, janitor by night- still sending money to support his impoverished mother and siblings.
at age 16, he fought his first professional fight, winning a purse of $40.00. until he went to hollywood and trained with freddie roach.

I would put the best boxing has against the best MMA has. I would bet my life that it would end within 2 mins with the MMA completely owning the boxer. And that 2 mins is the boxer running for his life for 1:55

hahaahhaha! i didnt get it at first but yes it sounds like a womans parts! hahahahha!
anyway, i always heard it as cleto reyes, a brand of 8oz gloves.

pac-margarito is the next fight, last undercard just about done(*edit: rigondeaux?)
im really not sure hes even going to win this, hes fighting a 5'11" well trained big guy.

and bip, take boxing as a different sport. mma and boxing have their own draws. just depends on the fan.
i dont like seeing naked men grappling. real men fight on their feet and with fists. not on the ground groping private parts.
