High quality? You want an IPS panel for best color reproduction and viewing angle, so something like:

http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/products/Displays/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=320-8277

If you're just looking for decent, these are practically a commodity now in the 20" - 24" range, so find something with the inputs you need and at a price that looks good to you. You ought to be able to find something good under $200. I've got a 23" Dell I found on special, and have a Samsung 21" on my kids' machine that I also found on special. http://slickdeals.net/ is a good place to watch for monitors to go on special.

I play aces high on an h233h made by acer with 1920x1080 resolution.  I like it big improvement from my old monitor.  when buying it is more like how much you are willing to pay. and these 3 things i know from reading here.  i may be wrong.

1 resolution higher the better.  at least 1920x1080
2 refresh rate, higher than 60(i think most are 60) is better but more expensive
3 response time (lower the better, think 2 is good, mine is 5, more than 5 no)

I dont really care too much about brand, but I do read the ratings on newegg, or on the web.  then again you never know. lots of people complained about my monitor, dont think they make it anymore, but i never had a problem.

almost forgot, widescreen is a must.  also i dont really buy monitors over the internet.  If i dont like it, too expensive to return them, then again, i am lucky i have bestbuy and fry's nearby and several other stores where i can look at the monitosr, take it home, try it and return it if I dont like it.  also make sure your gpu can handle the resolution of the monitor you are buying.

Sorry to say that my favorite is currently out of stock. You should be aware that a 2560x1600 native mode monitor that has a fast refresh rate and large viewing angle (be warned it also eats more power) will probably cost you more than most people spend on a complete system. Im talking 30" monitor but there may be smaller more affordable that I havent seen.
If you like the Sick Puppy Custom Sound Pack the please consider contributing for future updates by sending a months dues to Hitech Creations for account "Chalenge." Every little bit helps.

I personally have the hp2331 native resolution 1920 x 1080 but going off hdmi to I I can get higher resoulutions with no loss of frame rate. But the monotor you get should reflect what you want.

LOL Masher, I was going to link to the 24" version of that:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236049

While IPS displays have a great picture, I've heard they don't have as fast a response time which can be detrimental to gaming... but I have no experience with them so I could easily be wrong.  Personally, I find it hard to justify the $500+ price tag, when a faster monitor of the same size with a picture that most people probably wouldn't notice a difference in is available for $200.

Keep in mind while a higher resolution yields a better image quality, it also requires more video power and tends to cost a lot more money.  1080i/p, for example... is simply a resolution of 1920X1080.

This one here, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824176177 for example, has 2560X1600 resolution, is 30", and costs $1150 (lists for $1400).

If the most graphical intense thing you do with your PC is Aces High, then you'll be wasting money on such a high resolution monitor like that.  You can save a ton with a basic 1080p monitor.  Here's a 27" (in your size range) that is 1080p and display port for $319: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236091

So really it all comes down to what you want to spend...

What's the max refresh rate on that Mash?   I'm thinking of going matrox mid next year and that's exactly what I've been looking for...

Speaking as an owner of an 2209WA (IPS monitor), there is no downside compared to my 22" LG LCD (TN Panel) when playing Aces High.

I don't play other PC games, so I can't give an informed opinion on any truly fast paced game.

I won't ever go back to a TN Panel though after experiencing the richness and consistency of the colors of an IPS monitor.

Get LED backlit. The picture is amazing. The higher contrast ratio really does make a difference.

2ms.   When I get my new VC, I'll go HDMI.
