landing kills
« on: November 12, 2010, 05:33:59 AM »
I think we should be able to land kills on the field, not just on the concrete. I mean, like didn't they have trucks back then to move aircraft. Pilots after pilots like miss landing their kills by like 2 inches off the concrete. I mean I had to drag a 262 with all my kills, heavily damaged 10 sectors. After all that hard work my squaddies put into have me land my kills in my 262, it was all for nothing because I missed by 2 feet off the runway. I mean I was pilot wounded, both my engines we're out, I ran out of fuel, just as I came over the field. I did it all and I missed by 2 feet. The other part is my plane landed on its nose. It could fall on the bottom or the top. If it fell on the bottom I would have landed it. No, though it landed on the top. All those other people with even more insane stories about missing by ------ that much. Even with the people without damage on their aircraft. They sometimes are off just a little and don't know it, and BOOM they don't land any of it at all by this much.-------------

The line has been drawn many years ago. This has been discussed since many years ago. HiTech has stated he will not change it.

You are going to be flamed my boy................  Not by me, but I can't speak for the rest of them.

Landing your plane has nothing to do with you..... It's about the plane.  Ditching an aircraft basically means the aircraft will be taken out of operational service for an extended period to repair it..... That is if it can be saved at all.  A pilot in the USAAC wouldn't be court marshaled for ditching or bailing but his CO certainly wouldn't be too happy.

Landing your craft on the concrete is a "happy medium" in this game.  In RL, a dead stick bird that smashes down on the runway is still a DITCH.  In fact reminds me of a quote "I managed to ditch her right on the runway"

So........................... ........

I said many years ago that since a lot of WW2 airbases were grass, should get a successful landing not ditch. I'm sure many before and after have stated this, but no change.
So, I'm happy anyway. It wouldn't affect me either way cause I never make it back to base, lol.

ask to make field's runways look dirtier or grassier then... you realise that even though it may just be grass or dirt, that the runways were hard packed dirt or covered in makeshift runways so as to not destroy the plane upon landing or during takeoff.

I think your wish should be for using perkies to call for a truck to tow you to the hangar - the more kills you're looking to land the more perkies it will cost you.

In reality if you crash land on the paved runway you do not call it a successful landing, here you can cartwheel your burning airplane on a road on some V base hitting two tanks in the proses and cumming to a screeching stop on top of a hangar and still call it a successful landing.

Start with 100%

Landing anywhere on your base of origin -/+ 0%
Landing anywhere on a field not of origin -10%
Landing in a town /city/facility - 20%
Landing in open freindly country - 30%
Landing anywhere enemy country - 60%

deduct from any of the above

as any above with minor damage (no parts missing) -10%
as any above with significant damage (some parts missing) -20%
as any above with major damage (unflyable) -30%

over 79% = successfull landing
41-79%   = ditch
40% & below = capture

Though I agree that the space given for a 'successful landing' should be increased, I don't particularly agree that it should be the whole airbase. I'd like to see the space increased about 2/3 meters from each side of the runway, that way, you don't have to land particularly ON the pavement for a successful, but within those extra few 6-9 feet.

In retrospect, I think 4-7 feet sounds better.

Do you even play the game? I look at the field advanced graphics bad graphics I don't see one line of concrete like that. It's all just completely straight. How many patches ago was that pic taken? Even though a couple patches ago. You can see a kinda of a line in the dirt a couple feet off the concrete.

A ditch is basically crash landing in the water. In RL there's no such thing as ditching on dirt. Just increase the amount of an official landing by a couple feet. Plus, how about if you land on the field but still not on the concrete. Call it a crash landing and take what ever logical amount of points seems good enough.

If you cut the graphics way back that picture is what you get.

Hitech has already said the edge of the runway is the line and that is where it's going to stay.
