Actually the way it is is a great challenge.

If landing kills is something important to you than you have a reason to improve your landing skills and it becomes fun trying to limp a damaged aircraft back to base.

Sort of adds to the immersion giving you an incentive to get home alive and perform a proper landing.

+1 to the current system

That was a good little mission Stealth & I was honoured to fly with you guys.

Bummer about the landing you tried so hard to land a plane that had nothing going for it & these jokers tell you to learn how to fly better.

But that is forum life for you no sympathy nor understanding from the superior know it alls.

if you line up right you can land in a total black out. I've done it many a time (darn P38 pilot wounds!), again, it just takes practice. Know the limits and shoot for inside of them. It's just like any other game. You don't get "kinged" in checkers for getting to the row before the end row, you don't get 6 points in football getting tackled before the goal line. In both of these cases, your not going to get the line moved either.  :aok

I certainly didn't mean arrogance, heck, I rarely land kills, but I do like the current way it's modeled, adds to the challenge.

btw stealth, Wish I could have helped you with problem getting into the AvA.

Maybe you could pm Skuzzy?

I can't tell you how many I've "landed", landing gear shot out, rudder missing, engine dead or dying.

But I can say it is a challenge every time.         :airplane: :salute

Your name in lights is your reward for getting kills, knowing when to rtb,not pushing your smoking engine or wounded pilot and being able to land your warbird correctly

A ditch is basically crash landing in the water. In RL there's no such thing as ditching on dirt. Just increase the amount of an official landing by a couple feet. Plus, how about if you land on the field but still not on the concrete. Call it a crash landing and take what ever logical amount of points seems good enough.

Before you lecture someone on terminology, it would be a very smart idea to learn the meanings yourself prior to you lecturing someone else about them.  Ditching isn't nor ever was, a term used exclusively to refer to crash or forced landings on water.

As for your little whine...err request...as someone pointed out a line has to be drawn somewhere and having to land on concrete is that line.  Otherwise you get rid of the incentive to land on the concrete since you'll be able to land anywhere on the field successfully.  You get a ditch, live with it.

I was gliding in 120mphs on the deck for the love of god. Dodging bullets from a A-8 and a 1-C.

Well Ack-Ack not to be rude but, where did you find out that information on what's a ditch and what isn't?

Many years of research probably.

I don't recall anybody catching him short on a point re WWII history.

Jherne, Simaril, Widewing, and Murdr, are also great sources of accurate history, terminology, etc..

Totally not trying to be a jack-o but your thinking is totally wrong.  And I already told you this on page 1.  YOU, crashing down on a runway, in RL...... Still a DITCH.  It's not about you dookie, it's about the plane.  Can your aircraft take off again?  No?  Ditch.

And don't question AKAK.... I did once........... Once.   :uhoh

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_landing

The National Transportation Safety Board of the United States government defines "ditching" in its aviation accident coding manual as "a planned event in which a flight crew knowingly makes a controlled emergency landing in water.
