My daughter's first car "rebuild"
« on: November 14, 2010, 12:22:13 PM »
For the car guys in here:

My kid turned 16, she's a good kid so I think she deserves a car to be able to get a side job. She always wanted a 70s Olds cutlass but those things are way too $$$ as everyone wants to make them a 442 clone. I looked for about 1-2 years and couldn't really find anything decent for the price, ain't going to pay $1500 for a rusted out, ran last parked Buick Skylark self titled "Muscle car"  :lol We all know how crazy old car owners get once they done watching "Barret Jackson".

Plus as a first car I didn't really want to give her a V8 and a "big car". So I found that little forsaken Mustang ii, for $700 that barely ran. Drove it home and refreshed her a bit. The nickname of my daughter is "The Bee", thus the yellow/black paint, she likes road racing thus we put a hint of vintage racer look.

The 2.3 is perfect, cheap to rebuild, slow and I get 28-30 MPG on highway. Little car easy to park/drive. Updated the 13" wheels to 15", wider tires for more grip and more rotating mass for less speed, I win both ways.

Flomaster Super 44 exaust, so she thinks she's going fast. :devil

Here's a vid of the work done. No trailer queen here, think high school parking lot.

Very Cool i bet that car is her pride and joy and will hang onto it for years, Me and my Son are in the process of rebuilding my old truck i gave to him, its a 1994 ranger 4x4 that i bought new in 94 still in real good shape but were going with a V8 swap, it has a 3.0 in it now but with around 200,000 on it so its alittle tired, plus my son wants to be able to tow and play offroad and use it for Hunting  so a total ground up is what were doing

those mustang 2's aren't really as bad as people like to say they are. they handle very nicely, and look pretty good too.

i had a 74 with a 2.3L, and 4 speed. wasn't exactly a rocket sled, but it was fun.

Cool but Modern Safety Features are missing

1998 I broght 2 cars to greece in very good condition a SJ413 and a E28 520i,I fly to greece every yeahr put Batterie and air in tires and Vacation begins.
But since than Iam Married and have 2 Kids and the Safety of both cars is from mid 80`s so I broght a 3rd car with Hometrailer a 1995 Ford scorpio II ( Us Lincoln Ls) cause its more safety but not 2010 standart.

I don't think there's a word in the English language that can convey how cool that was.  Add to the fact that you did it for your daughter just puts an X10 on it in my book.   :salute Sir.. That was amazing.  I wish I knew how to do that stuff and had the equipment.

Yo Laverne know anybody around you that needs a structural enginerd?

Dear God I know ... I got pretty lucky. I did primer/base outside and rented a booth for the clear. The ironie was that this booth filter was poorly maintaned I think. I spent 1.5H cleaning the car but when I started shooting after turning the fan on, small black lint started flying around and landing on the car. Sometimes despite ur best efforts, u just can't win  :cry

That car is a 20 footer, but the paint is actually pretty good, not too much crap flew in the paint that I couldn't fix. I did have a buterfly the size of my hand  land in the black. Had to sand and repaint. No sweat. This 78 is like ur 74, must bring back memories.
