X36 detection problems
« on: January 26, 2001, 12:23:00 AM »
I orginally posted about this in the tech help bbs but figured this was a more appropriate place to seek help on this problem.

At the begining of the week I recieved my X36 USB from saitek which I bought as a refurb.  Installation seemed to go smoothly till I got in AH to discover Aces thought I had a Saitek P750 gamepad instead.  Not good I thought so I tried reinstalling the device.  This time AH didn't recognize anything at all.  After much fighting I could get AH to either see a gamepad or nothing but not my X36.  The only difference I could see in the two during the installation process was when I plugged the device back in after installing the SGE software and rebooting.  If I wait till the prompt I get nothing whereas if I plug it in immediately I get the gamepad I have no idea why this would happen but it seems to.  I'm going to email Saitek about this but I thought I'd fish for some answers here too.
One more note this is when I'm running it through the USB port.  When I try to run it through the gameport windows reports no device detected.

System:

PIII 500
128meg RAM
Diamond Viper TNT2
SB Live soundcard
Directx7a
Saitek X36 USB (refurbished)

Done that allready several times I fear the problem is in the stick itself and I'll have to ship it back to Saitek and get it replaced.  It's being detected by windows as the Saitek P750 gamepad and I don't know how to get that fixed.  The Device manager says it's a X36 but the game controller menu says it's the gamepad I dunno.

Open SGE till you see the pad and it's command file. Right click  any where in the window and left click on new.  Then select the X36. That should do it

Read Ron Hunt's post about adding a controller.  I think all you need to do is add the X36 and delete the current controller in your AH profile
www.saitekhelp.com  Has many answers to your questions, it's a great site!!!

Good luck

"The boys at Saitek" will probably not have the answer.

The answer will probably be found at Ron Hunts Saitek help page as posted above by 1776.
