Mouse tracking speed slider, especially for new high res mice
« on: November 17, 2010, 09:05:49 PM »
I'd like to request that we have Mouse Tracking Speed slider in our preference settings area please.

I had no idea this was such a common problem until I bought one of the new high resolution lazer mice.

After I installed the mouse, and set the tracking speed in windows, the cursor jumps across the screen in AH.  :O

I thought it was a settings issue on my end so I started a rfi thread in Technical Support and was surprised by the answers. Apparently this is becoming a pretty common problem.

I'm in the same boat! My mouse works wonderfully outside of AH, even works well in the AH main menus. But as soon as I get into an arena, it becomes crazy-fast. It annoys me, especially when I need to move the cursor super-slow to adjust something such as convergence or pick a skin.

I could be totally wrong, but can you not adjust that in Windows?

Doesn't resolve the issue.  I've adjusted the mouse speed settings in Windows and with the CM Storm Sentinel utility for my Sentinel mouse and only in AH is the mouse hyper-sensative.  I don't know what caused it but it happened during the beta testing of the Miles system when we had that seperate exe. to test it out.  When the Miles system update was released, there was a patch to fix the mouse speed issues in the splash screen where the problem was the mouse was too slow.  That was fixed with that patch but never the problem with the hyper-sensativity of the mouse in game.

Don't mean to bump this up, but I had to get a new mouse and now have the hyper-mouse problem and was searching the boards for a fix.  So if there is an in-game-fix coming to set the speed of the mouse, that would be nice.

I am not aware of a fix as of this date.

I wish I could map all the buttons on my mouse to the game.  I have found that a freewheel mouse works better for scrolling in Aces High.  If you have the option on your mouse, I suggest trying it.
If I had a gun with 3 bullets and I was locked in a room with Bin Laden, Hitler, Saddam and Zipp...  I would shoot Zipp 3 times.

This is a classic case of give the customer what he wants not what he ask for. Instead of giving you a slider, I Changed it so that AH grabs the registry setting and then AH works with the same speed as your windows desk top does.

I assume you wished it to work just like your desk top?

It doesn't work at the same speed in game as it does in Windows, at least my mouse no longer does.  The speed of my cursor on my desktop (or in any other application or game) is dramatically different than the cursor speed in Aces High.  On the clipboard splash screen, the mouse cursor does move at the same speed as on the desktop but once you get within the game, it jumps to hyperspeed.  I've tried adjusting the speed controls in both Windows and in my Sentinel software (which is tied to the Windows settings, so what you set in Windows will set the same speed in the Sentinel software and vice versa) and it doesn't fix the problem.  Lowering my DPI settings down to the lowest setting (1000dpi) does help a small amount but doesn't fix the problem completely.

Prior to the changes made with the mouse last year, this was not an issue at all and never had a problem with either my old Microsoft Habu or my Sentinel.  It was only until after the changes did this start to happen to me and apparently others as well.

Hitech,

Something that I've always wondered and found somewhat annoying in AH's mouse cursor is the seeming effect of damping in the cursor's response. The movement isn't as 'crisp' as it is in Windows for example but has very similar effects to its control as the joystick would have when I add too much damping to it's signal response in AH.

Ack Ack, thats why I just made the  changed it 10 minutes ago. So it works in game just like it does when AH is running in windowed mode for the next version.

My apologies, I didn't know you had put in a fix earlier today.  Forgot my controllers at home so I haven't had a chance to play during my free time here at work.

Thanks for taking a look at it. For me, it's still not a match to what I experience on the desktop in Windows though it might be a little better. Perhaps I need to re-boot my machine before it will kick in.

I don't think anything will change until the next update comes out...
