I'm staying on Win98SE until CH Products and Saitek get their software out for XP. But in the meantime, can someone please explain to me what the big difference is between the two? I assume it's mostly the amount of security and networking involved, as a business user would obviously need more.

I guess what I want to know is if I should plunk down the extra $100 for the pro edition.

i have pro at home...

EASYiest setup i've ever done on a computer. period.

insert CD, partition HD with that CD, format HD, install XP, (mind you, this is with ALL of my cards and peripherals plugged in and on), it then asked if i had an internet connect/service, clicked yes, entered username and password, and whalla, i was setup on DSL. no crappy ISP stuff to install or configure.

it's a little different in the start menu, but once you get used to it, it's awesome.

a friend of mine who works for dell and does server testing for them, says that xp pro mainly has more networking stuff in it. nto much of a difference at all than the home.

go PRO if ya can afford it. i'm diggin mine so far!

Mason, are you saying the XP CD has all the tools the win98 start disk has? That's to say the NT analogue of FDisk, Format, etc?

What file system did you use, FAT or NTFS?

XP pro supports dual processors, dynamic disks, and all of the other things windows 2000 supported that Bill thought he could get away with charging you for extra on XP.

it's a bootable CD, you can format from it, repair bad installs, etc etc.

only reason for running FAT32 on your drive
would be if you'd want to run Win98 or ME
on the same comp and want to be able to
share files inbetween the two OS's... Other
than that, there's only disadvantages or
rather, there's many advantages in running
NTFS instead of FAT32. It's simply a better
filesystem for large harddrives. And it
gives some pretty good security options
as well, like encryption (built into the
filesystem...)
