I have been seeing a lot of radar threads recently, though, and I thought perhaps changing how the system works might be beneficial.
I always thought this game had to many "knowns." You know the base's layout, you know what needs to be destroyed to take down certain aspects of the base, the radar is always in the same spot, and the towns are always built the same way. This can all make the game rather boring and repetitive, which I believe is why people get burnt out after a while of play... However, I digress...
I think it would be very cool to have radar stations instead of radar planted right in the middle of the base. These radar stations could potentially be randomly generated each time the map is loaded, and ownership of the station changes depending on the base they are "linked" to. This means that you don't know where the enemy radar is, their rings don't show up on the map, but if you find one, you have the potential to bring it down. This could also become a use for scout planes, if we chose to use them in the future. They could fly over enemy territory and when they spot a radar station, they could type .spot (or something) and an icon would show up on the map.
This kind of system could also open the door to other randomly generated objects, like supply depots for groups of bases and the such. They don't show up on the map, but if they are found, you can hurt the respawn time of objects on bases. If you ask me, I think the reason the old strat system was a bit useless was because you always knew where they were, and therefor you can't make them affect the bases very much or they would always be attacked. If you made them hard to find, you can make them have a greater effect on bases. Greater reward for a harder-to-find target.
Essentially, by bringing the radar off the bases, you have more of a chance for an "early warning" and a great way to change up how the game works. No longer will bases immediately lose radar at every attack, however the coverage over the base may not be as great. I think minor changes like this could really make the game much more dynamic and keep interest peaked. Comments, suggestions, and criticism welcome.
