x45 problem
« on: December 13, 2001, 06:54:00 PM »
I just got an x45 and it works....except no matter how I program it with sge it doesnt seem to take. Also, the DX buttons activated by the Aux1 and mode sliders are always on, I cant get them off, even by removing all the commands associated with them in sge. I really want AH to reconize the other hat as a pov. Also, why does saitek give you the ability to edit the default profiles for everything but the item you bought (x45)? I have windowsME and an athlon system, FIC MB.

What SGE release are you using?  Perhaps it got corrupted in the download process. I think you shoul use SGE 3.0.  When you use SGE you will have to program all the hats and buttons.  You can't use the AH program just the SGE program.  The hats can be designated as 8 ways in SGE. Just right click on the hat and select properties and change it to action instead of POV and then assign the views to the hat.

This may be  a stupid question did you plug the stick in then install the drivers. I would suggest running nukeusb and reinstaling the driver. As for the buttons being on in the DX mode go to joystick setup and then into select stick. Once there go to the button on the left which is one lower then the button that is on ( 8 = 7 ) then on the right side select none for AH's button this will turn them off.  Remember in the DX mode the pinky switch is a switch not shift key.

The buttons for DX will make the stick usable with WinXP. I also installed the driver from Saitekhelp for win200 & XP.

Ok, I removed everything- nuked usb, did some removejoy stuff (got rid of all Saitek and Logitech) and reinstalled. I think im getting closer because it uses a different stick testing interface, one that seems more applicable.(the aux1 isnt always on now) Unfortunately now I cant get through the 'new profile wizard' without getting a runtime error that causes an abnormal shutdown of explorer.

Still need to know what release you are using for SGE.  Also you need to have IE 5.5 or higher.  Your last post suggests the old "memory leak" problem with earlier IE and earlier releases of SGE.  Let us know what releases you are using so we can provide you with better information, thanks.

Im using IE 5.5 and whatever sge version that came with the X45 (im assuming they would ship the latest version with it). Also, I downloaded 3.0 and tried it- same problem, with the exception that theres no X45 (only up to x36) in the part where you select which game controller your gonna use (I chose x36). Theres another guy on the SimHQ forum with the same problem (no solution yet)

Is the guy with the same problem using the same operating system?(windoxeME)

Just read the post over at their forum, looks like Windoze ME has some kind of problem with the auto-configure feature :(

Best bet is to watch for a solution there.  Perhaps Ron Hunt will finally get his X45 and can address the problem.

You might try right clicking on the Aces High profile in SGE, select explore.  Then right click on everything except the command file and delete.  Then the only thing in the Aces High profile is the command list.  Then right click on the empty area and select NEW and add the X45.  Start assiging buttons as required for you taste :)  See if that gets you started.  Good luck :)

That idea gave me some hope 1776 but in the end it didnt work. When I tried to apply the profile to the game I got the old runtime error.

How about trying to turn off the auto configure feature by right clicking the icon in the task bar.  Then go to the AH profile and right click and select "configure now" then open and play the game.  See if that may work.  Good luck.

I was also thinking that an up grade or maybe even a down grade to Windose 98SE would fix your problem.  But, if you like Windose ME you may have to wait til Ron Hunt gets an X45 and finds a fix :(
